Have a particular car I'm watching on Copart. The auction was to end today but the car was still at $0 last night with a minimum bid of $150. Being the cheapskate I am, I was going to bid last minute and hope to get for $150+fees. When I woke up this morning the auction was moved 35 days. Crap. Well, maybe not, the timing might actually be better in a month.

Question being, does Copart push the listing within a certain amount of time if there are no bids?

I've been doing the same thing. Unless it is assigned a lot number and auction row, then the sale date is forecasted. It's usually a result of title/DMV paperwork issue because the insurance hasn't settled or issues with lienholders.

Think secondary financing, car get's totalled, insurance pays out less than the note, title doesn't get released, yadda yadda.

I've been watching a specific car for 2 months now. Same story.

Is this at a public auction, or do you have a dealer/dismantler license?

In reply to Tyler H:

Thanks. Makes sense. It's in PA so I can bid at will.

This is exactly right. Most likely scenario is Copart doesn't have all the paperwork they need to sell the car yet. Trust me, the total loss process can take a long time.

OK I have a copart questions too... Can you see your watchlist items that have ended somewhere?! I want to see what things end up selling for and I cant seem to find it.

Nope! You can dig around a little and download the entire auction run database in .CSV format, then conditional format or filter on VIN to find manual transmission cars. It's a lot easier than flipping through interior pictures, looking for stick shifts. An astounding number of people seem to think that things with torque converters count as manual transmissions.

Once there is a auction/row assigned, you can join the live auction and see the run order by lot# and watch it live. After the hammer drops, it evaporates.

Amazed at how much car you can buy for $75+fees if you have a license.

You'll need to log in to post.
