So the new F12tdf is uglier than the F12 it's derived from and has an awkward name. But what's weird is the styling 'enhancements' seem to be aping the Corvette C7. What gives, Pininfarina?

I see it too, but I think the fact that it's shown in Corvette Racing's traditional yellow and black colors only amplifies that connection. The C7 ZO6 debuted with a very similar paint job.
If it were all red, or silver, or maybe a dark blue I don't think it would seem as "Corvette-y". If it were blue with white stripes, it might appear more "Viper-ish". As a blank body, I'm not sure it's really that close to either one.

Glad to see I'm not the only one that finds the new Ferrari front styling ugly.
hmm. Interesting. For me to get a true answer to your question, I will need to inspect both vehicles in detail. Please drop both off in my driveway, and I will have an answer for you within the year.
Only so many ways to get air to behave around a car that fast and pass pedestrian safety regs. They are all going to start looking the same due to this.

You're not seeing a resemblance?
In reply to jstein77:
I see less of a resemblance looking at those two pictures than I did with my imagination prior to you posting them.
In reply to jstein77:
Well... one has red brake calipers whereas the other has yellow.
Wowzers.
That's pretty much a direct copy. Who knew Ferrari would copy Chevy? Cool.
When the newest 'Vette first came out, I thought it looked almost like some kind of American Ferrari. So Corvette copied Ferrari. But now this clearly looks like Ferrari's take on Corvette's design. So now Ferrari is copying Corvette, copying Ferrari? Head hurts...
nderwater wrote: Not ugly, but it uglier (more overwrought) than the regular F12. I find it fussy and over-designed.
I don't know why, but the rear treatment with the exhaust pipe placement makes me think of a kid carrying a load around in his pants. Maybe it's the lack of lighting on the diffuser in the image.
Lets face it the laws of physics and fluid dynamics only work one way and to me it means that there computer aided design of the two cars and wind tunnel testing are causing them to end up in roughly the same place terms of the final car design.

It's automotive inception. Kinda like the BMW 650 sedan. "It's a 4 door version of a 2 door version of a 4 door car" -Jeremy Clarkson

The very first sentence of my response was that I saw it. "It" being the resemblance. But I guess I could've been more clear.
The cars are very similar types of cars. Both are 2 seat, front engine/RWD GTs with 7L engines in excess of 650hp. They're going to have similar cooling, and aerodynamic needs, so they're going to be vaguely similar no matter what as Weary Microbe said.
They have very similar paint jobs in this case, but outside of that, and the headlights, I see two designs that are fairly different considering their similar goals and layouts. If you painted a new Viper yellow, with an angled carbon piece behind the front wheel, it could probably fit into the conversation too.
Ask yourself, if the Ferrari had the carbon fiber piece on the fender painted to match the body, and the entire car were painted all red, would the Corvette connection still be as strong or would they just be 2 sporty, high hp GT cars?
I don't see a resemblance, the F12tdf has no features that make it look like the C7 corvette except for the similar headlight shape and kinda similar front fender vent (but the vents are in a different location even and have a totally different geometry and function in forming a 3-D flying buttress air channeler with the hood along with wheel well extraction it seems...the corvette's are solely wheel well/brake heat extractors) other than that it in no way resembles the C7 - looking at the side profile from the front edge of the door rearward there is ZERO resemblance shared between the two, totally difference contours and proportions for every feature. Top 3/4 view is even more obvious this is in no way anything like a C7.
I see more 512BBi before anything remotely resembling a C7. In comparison the C7 actually kind of resembles a normal F12 from the front view though. Always have to do a double take when one is coming up behind me in the distance because first instinct with a non critical observation is it's a Ferrari...especially if it's a dark color, like say black. Dang poser C7's!
And the F12tdf is much sexier looking than the standard F12...
Hey, at least the name is better then the The Ferrari.
"What type of car is that man"
"The Ferrari"
"Yes, the Ferrari"
"What?"
"Yes, what type of Ferrari is that"
"The Ferrari"
"Yes"
"What?"..........

there are some serious differences between the two. The Ferrari is a more "cab-rearward" design than the vette which has the driver closer to the centre of the car. This puts more visual mass over the rear wheels, especially with the Ferrari's more truncated side window shape. Also, the Ferrari has a seemingly taller greenhouse than the pill box like vette's glass area.
Both are sexy cars, and from the front do look a lot alike.. but that is the only angle where you might mistake a vette for a Ferrari.
I also agree that the Ferrari is a bit overwrought. I pine for Pininfarina's restrained styling of thelast century
