What does Subaru do to up the WRX STI??? According to this report: Subaru has confirmed the car will boast an impressive 400PS (395bhp) at 5,750rpm, sufficient to dispatch the 0-62mph sprint in just 3.7 seconds (compared to 300PS / 296bhp at 6,000rpm,and 5.2 seconds for the standard Impreza WRX STI). This ensures the Cosworth-tuned car will be one of the most accelerative all-wheel-drive hatchbacks ever manufactured. Subaru also reports that the Cosworth Impreza STI CS400 will feature a bespoke brake package - with six-pot callipers and 355mm discs at the front - developed in partnership with AP Racing, giving the car prodigious stopping power. Coventry-based AP Racing is a leading supplier of brake and clutch components to teams in the Formula One Championship and the World Rally Championship, as well as to leading supercar brands including Bugatti.

A wide range of further upgrades have been made to the suspension, exhaust and to the donor Impreza's exterior and interior styling. An exclusive, limited edition run of 75 Cosworth Impreza STI CS400s will be produced, and full details of pricing and technical specification will be announced closer to the on-sale date, this summer

not that it doesnt seem awesome, but it seems like COSWORTH could do better than a 100hp increase

I like the words bespoke and Coventry in the same story as long as I don't have to write the check.

In a quasi-production car? 100 hp isn't too shabby, and I'll bet this thing's warranteed. Heck, you're basically adding the horsepower of a 1990 Miata to the car.

Mitsubishi sells Mirages in the UK with this kind of power, but the prices are "out of this world". With all the British parts/part manufacturer's mentioned, this sounds like it will be a UK only WRX "off-shoot" model. The UK gets a ton of Subie models we don't get here.

I often feel that everyone else gets Subie models that we don't. And then I remember growing up in Canada, where perhaps the only thing that we got that the US didn't was the Hyundai Pony (though it can be turned into a decent Locost, so I hear). heck, maybe the US didn't get as many Lada's as we did either.

This Cosworth STi would probably run $50k American or more..

Meanwhile, for about $2k or less, you can take a regular $30k STi and put it well over 400 crank horses reliably and easily. There are 450+whp daily-driven WRX/STI's around here.

I'll just order a Cosworth badge on ebay for $19, thanks...

Canada also tends to get more manual transmissions - our 1991 Passat 5-speed wagon was only available in the US with an auto, for example. And I always thought the Pony was a cool little car :)

There's a big difference between an aftermarket power boost and one that's supported by a manufacturer. First, there's emissions. Then there's reliability. Just look at what Mazda did to the 2004 Mazdaspeed to ensure it met their reliability metrics, complete overkill compared to what most people will do. Reinforced halfshafts!

As for the math, an STi is $35k MSRP. And the $50k number is pure speculation.

I'm not as in love with the aftermarket-tuned, sold-as-new Subarus and Mitsus the rest of the world gets. You end up with an expensive, moderately rare, moderately collectible, WRX with a bunch of power.

I'd rather have a self-styled WRX done just how I like and 100% exclusivity.

Agreed, I typically am luke warm on aftermarket/turnkey styling, but theres something to be said for a moderately rare, moderately collectible factory warranty on your racecar.

quoted for truth. Selling an image for boatloads of cash. I always admired what Bill Blydenstein used to quietly do for Vauxhalls - his name probably would have looked crap on a monogrammed baseball cap tho'.

And 0% of the warranty. To some people its important to be able to point fingers at someone other than themselves.
