Not mine was just looking on racing junk under tow vehicles

Kind of reminds me of the ramp truck project

Around town yes. Highway? I doubt you'd wanna push it over 55 for too long.

1.00 4th with what, 4.11's? What's that rpm gonna be at 65mph 3,000?

I always picture towing to be highway towing. It'd be better if it had one more gear.

Not sure. But I'm pretty sure you'd be immune to penalty laps if you showed up to a Lemons race in it!

For 1200 bucks if it runs it would be hard to go wrong tho. It does fit in a challenge budget and there is going to be a truck class right :P

In my opinion a good tow rig is one that is "not interesting." I want a boring, boring tow rig. Something that boringly tows my trailer to races at a boring 70mph on the highway, quietly and smoothly with no drama and no significant effort. Something that has a boring, unremarkable ride quality, and the engine does nothing exciting while towing. And it has no drama on any tow, because it's boringly reliable. And it has a boring large cargo area (either bed or enclosed SUV) because we carry a bunch of stuff (and occasionally people) to the track. And the A/C blasts cold air because staying cool on a long summer tow is boringly awesome.

That ramp truck.....by the time you get it road-worthy, safe and reasonably reliable, you're probably at a couple times the original price paid, and you still have a truck that will be slow on the highway, have a small cab, lousy bench seat, and no other real storage capacity for gear, and probably not have A/C.

Yeah, it's neat to look at and imagine "what if," but it seems like overall it would be E36 M3 as a tow rig.

Save the neat/unique/unusual for the car on the trailer. Buy boring and "what everyone else has" for a tow pig. Ask yourself if the momentary joy of people saying "wow, neat old tow rig" is really worth how much it probably actually sucks to tow with ...

My 2 cents. I have a boring, 12-year-old Sequoia that isn't even remotely interesting in any respect. Rock-solid Toyota boring (but without the 4Runner/Toyota Pickup cost markup).

Hehe I agree with you, in fact after my first rallycross I want to make sure all my vehicles have working AC

Maybe as a track wrecker? Would be a cool billboard for a savvy local business possibly.

This right here^ I also have a 10 year old Toyota as a tow rig/dd. Boring is good too for when you found that cheap hotel, only to arrive and realise its not in a good part of town, you dont have yo worry about it attracting attention overnight.I'm also convinced you actually want an auto for towing, as that means when you crash and break your leg, your wife/girlfriend/friend that can't drive stick can drive your rig home for you. It also means when your sitting in rush hour traffic trying to get to an event site your not killing your clutch leg. And then having to get up and pump a clutch all day the next day.

Read all of the articles on GRM's ramp truck.

They found most of the problem areas.

Id drive it. Minus the ramp its pretty much my ideal tow rig. My last tow rig was a 76 f150 with an i6/3 speed. Its the biggest perk to living in flat ass ohio!
