Crazedlist is down until further notice . . . Gotta find a new CL search for my fix . . .

Enjoy that for the time being. May not be the same but you'll get over it.
In reply to Tom_Spangler:
They are suffering from the CL changes as well.
In reply to N Sperlo:
Thanks!!!
I think I may have to write up something that builds OPML files on the fly and run it through my Feed Reader . . .

Indeed, craigslist changes are affecting us too, but we already have fixes in place, and are making continuous improvements. Described in our forums here: http://forums.searchtempest.com/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=823
As for OPML files, SearchTempest already has a feature to automatically build an OPML file of craigslist feeds matching your search. (So you can automatically grab matching feeds for all cities within a specified radius of your zip, or for states you choose.) Just click the 'get feeds' link at the top-right of the results page. :)
In reply to Strike_Zero: There is supposed to be a new 'version' of crazedlist that runs searches directly from the users computer (as opposed to from the crazedlist server) but it requires the pow firefox extension which as AFA I can tell doesn't work with Firefox 12 which is what I have so I haven't tried it yet. You can supposedly get it and instructions here:

Highly doubt it. It would have to bee replaced by something just as versatile. To me that's like saying, "The internet is dying."

claz.org is useful, but it doesn't search craigslist. (Would say the same for oodle, backpage and kijiji.)
is cheapcarfinds working for anyone else? It won't find anything. I have used it in the past with good luck but nothing now.
I haven't been on CL for quite some time. If I do go on, it's to look for an apartment or house for rent. I know if I go look for a car, I'm gonna be in trouble with "The Warden"
The number of sane people using craigslist in my area is down, and the number of overall posts is down. Sounds like it's not doing too well, at least in my area (which is covered by 5 different craigslists).

Must be a regional thing; here there are almost a thousand new ads a day just in the cars for sale by owner section. Literally tens of thousands of current ads up at any given point. Years ago it was unusual to hit 100 ads per day. It was more like 25-50. So it seems to be doing better than ever here.

The exact same comments were once made about eBay to me. Funny, they seem to be a nag-up job of circling the drain now.
CL is way, way down in the Portland area, at least for cars. Dealers and curbstoners have turned the place into a wasteland that nobody wants to pick through to find the actual car they want. Sad.

I think that's what's happening here. Since I only look at things that interest me, meaning I don't look at the housing ads, everything seems to be taking a turn for the worse, exactly like eBay a few years back.
I agree that eBay is a shadow of it's former self in terms of usefulness, but it's hardly going away, in fact I'd wager that the volume of goods sold on there is probably as high as it's ever been. But yes, "normal" people have taken to other ways of selling things online, Craigslist being a big one. And yes, Craigslist does seem to be taking some very user-unfriendly steps lately. Couple that with the number of bad buying and selling experiences everyone seems to have on there, and there are surely signs of trouble. Still, there is a need. Someone will fill it. If it's not Craigslist, it'll be something else.
It reminds me of the file sharing thing. First there was Napster. Then Gnutella, Kazaa, Limewire, etc. Now there's Bittorrent. Sooner or later that will get shut down and something else will take it's place. Possibly the thing that's been there all along, Usenet....

Yes, there's still millions of items listed. The numbers that are actually selling though are far, far lower. 10 million reposted Chinese light bulbs do not make up for the total and complete loss of nearly every private seller eBay had with real, actual items that people actually purchased.
Most of the stuff I've posted on eBay recently has sold. To the tune of a couple thousand dollars in the last couple months, of stuff that would be really tough to sell locally. (Ie, mid century modern office chairs, turbomolecular vacuum pump, etc etc. Not exactly Craigslist fodder.) I know there are too freakin' many reposted light bulbs, but there are also literally millions of listings on eBay. Their sales volume is still very, very high.

SearchTempest is pretty good, but they also just had to switch to the 3taps API which is incomplete (they were using iFrames like crazed was). My roommate and I built a car-search site that still gets all the data... its got dealerhips too but you can disable them in "SOURCES" so might be worth checking out, we have all of craigslist across the nation and you can search by year range, transmission, keyword, anything

hope you like it!

It is definitely clogged up with a lot of Chinese BS now, but I've bought and sold a lot of stuff on eBay recently. It is useful for buying and selling used stuff like car parts, sports/outdoor/motorcycle gear, and books and DVD's.
One eBay thing I LOVE is that you can buy just the DVD out of a season of TV you have ruined/lost for a few bucks. The annoyance of having to buy the whole Season 3 of The Wire again just because Disc 2 has disappeared from the face of the earth is over.
In don't buy much new stuff from eBay, though sometimes I will be searching a part number or something and eBay will pop up on google shopping.
dailylister.com is another craigslist search tool. Its good for very specific items.
You'll need to log in to post.
