Anyone interested in doing a cross country haul?
I have a non-running 1960 Cadillac Deville in GA. It has been sold, but the buyer is in CA. He is getting quotes for hauling that exceed $2000.
I figured one of you might be interested in a road trip. ![wink wink](https://grassrootsmotorsports.com/static/ckeditor/ckeditor/plugins/smiley/images/wink_smile.png)
If interested, I also have a car in Chicago that needs to go to GA that I would be willing to pay to haul. Doesn't have to be a deadhead run.

Huh. I thought someone might be interested.
For $2K, I'm tempted to do it myself!
Do it! You can stay at my place in Chicago for a night.

I'll bring the beer.
What are the details on this Chicago car?
Stop in Chicago then hit Cleveland for that bicycle, then down 77 to SC. Try and get something from cali to chicago to offset the empty run fuel cost

I recently has a Suburban shipped from CA to TN for 1100, but it ran. Has he tried U-Ship? I've used it half a dozen times, some ran and some didn't, and had positive results.

You've both got mail.
dang. sounds like an epic father son trip to me.
4,000 miles in my Suburban looks to be around $800 in gas. Someone with a diesel might do a bit better.

When you figure gas, possible toll roads, time away from work..............would $2k even cover your expenses?

In reply to z31maniac :
It would go a long way toward paying for a great road trip!
If I added $500 for the Chicago car, and picked upo something for the return trip, I think I could do OK.
I have a diesel that gets 20 mpg. Should be able to do it for less than $550 in fuel.

...and $2K is not supposed to cover the expenses for a 4000 mile trip. It's the cost to haul 2000 miles.

I like driving. I think I'd hate driving coast to coast and back. You're talking like 70 hours behind the wheel. Unless you've got a bunch of vacation time to burn, I'd be paying to ship it before I drove that. Spending that 70 hours at work might cover your shipping.
In reply to SVreX :
Is this a case of the eBay buyer not checking on shipping before they bid?

No. He is completely prepared to do it.
Just exploring options, and I'd rather pass the cash toward someone on the board if the opportunity presents itself.
Coast to coast isn't bad. Too bad I just finished Cali to NC. My friend who rode with me would have done this in a heartbeat.

BTW, cross country hauls are the best way to offset vacation costs. When I bought Powar's Diesel Suburban, it was so I could do a $500 trip hauling a sofa back to Chicago from Albuquerque. While the $500 didn't cover the whole trip, it offset costs enough to make the trip financially attainable, and we made several new friends along the way.

Yes I do.
And it's gonna have to go soon.
On May 30th I fly to Southern California and back on June 1st.
On June 14th I fly to ALB, New Mexico to meet my wife and drive to Southern California. (750 miles)
On June 19th I leave SoCal to drive to Yosemite and then drive back to Chicago to get to work on June 25th. (2,200 miles)
On July 19th I drive to Boston to help junior get settled to turn around to get back to work on July 23rd. (2,000 miles)
I will see if I can squeeze this trip in.
If it comes through central Texas or San Antonio ill take it to socal. Gives me an excuse to bring my other car back.
