I know there are a good number of crown vic fans on here now, and I was wondering if you knew where I should look for some original equipment steel wheels? Specifically 98-02 16" steel wheels.
Do police stations have piles of these laying around? Any good forums to go check?
Horrible photoshop of what I want to do. Almost looks like the old mustang and torino steelies but bigger, and cheaper.
Both grandmarq.net and crownvic.net have decent classifieds sections though I'd think you could find them locally pretty easily (and cheaply).
I like the idea.
Craigslist is your friend. You should easily be able to find a set of 4 for $100 anywhere in the US. Trim rings are aftermarket only, center caps vary (but are the same caps as the Ranger and F150's FYI). Get the "volcano" cap, not the "pancake cap" (pancakes are what's on your photochop).
Depending on where you are, I happen to have a set of 4, with tires, and volcano caps, and trim rings...
what he said. they're rarely bent, so there's not a lot of call for them. salvage yards oughtta have them laying around cheap.
I don't know for sure, but don't the CV wheels have a substantially different offset than what came on 1968/69 Torinos? The other question will be if they have the same bolt pattern.

Last time i was checking i could only find one wheel at a salvage yard, they wanted $75 for one. Had no luck on CL.
Stuart, the CV's changed to a FWD offset in 03 with the new frame and brakes (the brakes were later stolen for the 05 Mustang, which is how it go it's FWD offset as well). The 98-02's had a nice deep dish and the wheels are often used on classic Fords with no issues or spacers. Bolt pattern is the same, 5 on 4.5".
i have 4 on a parts car. no caps or rings though.
i pulled trim rings off a 1 ton chevy at the junkyard that had factory 16" wheels and they are perfect. this is what mine look like - i switched back to steelies from mustang bullitt 17's and like it better this way.
