Third or maybe fourth car I have put a Kenwood system in with the intent of using an old Ipod Nano for commercial free tunes.  I know there are better ways to get tunes, but this one has some old stuff and playlists I like.

Anyway, bought a KMM BT728HD, spec says Ipod and nano compatible.  Plug in the Ipod and "not recognised".  Call them, all Kenwood single din units no longer support ipod through the USB port.  The first page of the unit specs says it does, but when the spec details are accessed, it says no support of ipod through the USB port.

Crutchfield admits their website info is contradictory, and I can probably return it but this is so disappointing.  Never had an issue with them and never will again.  Time to find another source for audio stuff.

If you can find a customer service experience that's better than Crutchfield, I  say "Go for it!"  I don't know how much blame they deserve for what appears to be a change made by Kenwood.  I understand your disappointment.  Make the return and get the product that does what you want it to do.

Their mistake is having conflicting information on the website.  The first page for a product shows compatibility, but when you flip to tech details it specifically says not compatible.  At least they will take the return with freight on them.

I try to support places like Crutchfield; but, their prices are typically always higher than other vendors and their website is pretty inaccurate for a lot of models. It stinks because they used to be the go-to for car audio.

I.e. they sold me a part for my Sequoia to fit normal speakers into the front door panel to replace the JBL setup. It's a Metra product but they said "it's a direct fit" that needed an hour of modification to make work.

The one thing I really hate is how Crutchfield has dumbed down their catalog.  It used to be a wonderful thing.  Now it's a useless throw-away with no organization or real information, just like most other catalogs that have been tailored to the ADHD generation by a bunch of misguided marketing people.

I’m still pleased with crutchfield. But it is mostly for their assistance dealing with product failures from kenwood. I won’t get a kenwood ever again, but whatever I do get may well come from crutchfeild.

Crap... I have a new to me Kenwood (swapped out of SWMBO new to her car) I just installed in my Fit that supposedly supports Ipod, but I have not checked... I hope it's old enough to otherwise I too will be disappointed.

Sorry to hear of your troubles.

I've bought all my car audio stuff from SonicElectronix for the last 10 years.

Pretty sure almost none of the 2020 head units work with iPods on a plug-in basis. That had already started going away 5 years ago.

well the somewhat happy ending is they are taking the unit back and paying shipping for the return.  I have an older unit in the garage for tunes and it will go into the car.  Sorry for the rant, putting this in a 91 300SL, which has the most difficult wiring I have ever seen.  Speaker wires go to the trunk, through the amp(dead) and then to the dash.  impossible to ohm out, so I ended up having to open both doors up, remove speaker boxes, open the boxes(17 frickin screws), replace speakers then guess which wires in the kick panels went to the speakers because the wires changed color at a hidden connector.  Worst radio install ever, not loving this car right now.
