Would you let go of a '89 Crx Si with new parts and 180,000 miles (and some rust) for this?

I haven't talked to the owner or anything. Just too much time on my hands today.

My first thought is "Absolutely."
Trading for a faster car that's probably twice as clean with half the miles? Where's the downside there?
The only thing the CRX has going for it over the EGT is the suspension design, but that's not to say that the EGT can't handle, itself.
I've had both. The EGT has been a more satisfying car for me, in all honesty.
Is this a fair price for one of these? My crx is solid except for the passenger door and passenger rear quarter.
As cool as the Escort Cossie is, (and the North American EGT) there are no commonalities between those two cars other than the blue oval on the front.
In reply to Carson:
I know. Just couldn't help but throw that vid in. We never do get the real cool cars here in the states.
Yeah $2000 for that car seems very fair. To someone who really likes these cars, it could even be considered a bargain. I'd pay $2k for that without a second thought.
I've got closing in on 3x the mileage of that thing, and mine is nowhere near as clean, and i paid $700 for mine.
To bravenrace and anyone else. If I do sell my Crx, here is some info on it:
1989 Si. 180,000 miles. Clean title. Original owner owned it until 119,000. Second owner until 176,000. My brother bought it and keep it a short time and now it's mine. Red with black. It had a newer battery, radiator, and tires when my brother bought it. He had the following done: Exhaust, clutch, timing belt, water pump, rotors/pads,main relay, upper control arms, tie rods, driver side axle, ball joints, new carpet ($300), new front pioneer speakers. Machined the flywheel. I changed the plugs (NGK from Honda), oem gear shift knob, changed engine oil and tranny oil. It may have had some other suspension parts changed. Alignment was done. Interior is really good. Driver seat some wear, passenger seat perfect. All stock. The paint is fading some. Passenger door is bad. Passenger rear quarter not the best, driver side not bad at all. A few small previous body work spots. For an Ohio car, not too bad. My brother ended up investing $3600 total. Mechanically it's great. Does need driverside axle.

HeHe. Yeah. And to think, my brother added a stock exhaust. It could have gotten about 20hp increase with the fart can.
Here's something for you EGT fans. If you haven't already seen it:

The numbers on paper look better for the EGT rather than Road and Tracks numbers back in 1991 for the Crx.
That was a cool article. I had no idea so much of the car was designed/revised by those sneaky Japanese.
However, despite how clean that particular example is, it would be a real tough call for me to trade a sorted CRX Si. If faded paint is your worst problem on the Rex, I doubt I'd make the choice to get rid of it.
That said, just go drive the darn thing and then decide. I think either car would be fun to own.
Those acceleration and braking numbers are spot-on to what ive achieved with a stock 1993 dodge dynasty, so that's a plus, i guess. The numbers may be better than the CRX's too.. all i remember about stock 89 CRX speed is that slower cars can easily pass them after they gear out at like 103 mph.
I think the Escort, assuming you keep it in GOOD condition, is the better one to have. Moreover, i wouldnt pay that amount for the CRX so if you can get the escort in some sort of dollar-neutral exchange or series of transactions, i think you'd be doing well.

A 93 EGT with taller tires on Miata wheels and a Brospeed exhaust will do an indicated 133 on a long straight stretch. Ask me how I know
...and a bone-stock '94 EGT will beat a s/c MR-2 on the highway. Ask me how I know.
God I want that car! Hard to belive an EGT was the car I "let get away"? Lol

I think i know how you know. I've come to about the same conclusions on a 93 EGT with 205/60-15s. The top end on these cars is hilarious.
