I PDI'd (Pre Delivery Inspected) quite a few manuals at the dealership I worked at, but yes, the majority of them were CVT (which actually get better gas mileage). They are cool on the inside, my OCD just won't let me get over the asymmetrical rear end.

I thought the hamsters drove the cube? But it looks like from this thread hamsters drive souls and hipsters drive cubes? Is that right. The little boxes are all about the same to me. They are all derivatives of Scion xB's in my book.
i agree the cube looks a little dorky with its skinny little wheels.
but I leave you with this.
Well I really like them because they are weird. I drove one and liked the space inside. I have a SUV and a Miata for other things. I have been looking for several months for a manual and they are impossible to find and you can only get a manual in the two lower trim levels.
Ya it's weird (ok ugly) but part of the problem is the Nissan dealerships. When I shop, the sales people don't know anything about them and constantly try to push me into something else more expensive. Seriously, they literally say "oh you don't want one of them, let me show you...."
The flip side of that is they are all staying firm on the price. You would think if they sell so few and they have a customer that's interested they would be willing to be a little flexible.
I personally think the Soul is a different type of vehicle whereas the Cube should be compared to an Xb or an Element.
Bottom line: I like it for an economical DD that has some space and being weird (different) is just an extra bonus for me.
Once again my experience with dealerships is atrocious.

No... hipsters seem to drive old, clapped out Volvos... having to make a car payment would take away too much money from their skinny jeans & PBR budget... plus, having a car payment would require them to have jobs...
Want to really piss off a hipster? Call them a hipster... then stand back and watch them rant.

Hamsters killed the Cube, plain and simple.
Absolutely. My wife cross shopped Cube, Soul, Xb and Element. She likes the boxes. She wanted to love the Cube, it was her favorite purely on its weirdness.
But at the end of the day the Soul was better equipped, for less money and a better warranty, it's kind of hard to argue with that logic.
The Cube makes me go into a rage the second I see one.
I rented a Cube a few months ago for my one way drive to get my Mustang. Windy day on the interstate down and through Oklahoma and I came away thinking they were a decent little breadbox with horrible styling just so they could be eye catching. Pulled about 30 mpg. Liked it a lot more than the family member's HHR I ride in now and then; decent ride, not too loud, okay throttle response for a small engine in a box with a CVT.
That said, there was something much more enjoyable about running back home through Oklahoma in a Mustang.
i like the kia better, and i'm a hugely biased nissan lover.

A friend's g/f really wanted a Cube (she's a bit odd) until she found out there actually is a C-pillar hidden behind the curved rear glass. She eventually bought an new xB instead.

I'm going to get a tatoo. That will be unique. That's how everyone I know made a unique statement.

I think from a size point of view the Cube is a lot closer to a Soul than it is to an Element or Xb. Both the Element and Xb are significantly bigger cars than the Cube and Soul.
I find the soul to be awkward looking. And I dont like that it gives up space for (bad) styling.

That's how i read that. It would be news to me if the Xb did not also have.. wait for it.. c-pillars.
I think it's funny how different the enthusiasm level is here for the Fiat 500 and the Cube. Everything i know about cars after buying 40 of them and working on them for a living for most of a decade says that the Cube is a much better overall car than the Fiat (for less money too) but the majority opinion here runs counter to that. I guess part of the difference is that Nissan never promised or offered a sporty version of it (although i'd much rather own a Cube with a Juke drivetrain than a 500 Abarth). Oh well. What do i know.. except that the Cube took several years to finally tank while the Fiat is tanking after less than 1.

Well, I don't really like any of them... Except maybe the Element. And after 8 years of being around MINIs, the 500 is a bit 'meh....'
i don't know much, but i know what i like

I like those things too. I really like the interior. It justifies the exterior (although i think the SC looks cool, just not the base).

If it makes you feel better the fiat is ONLY like $7k overpriced.. much less than the margin on the MINI.

In what way is the Cube better then the Fiat? The Cube is so ugly that I want to upchuck everytime I see it. The interior IMHO is better in the Fiat as well.

To the curved glass? Beats me. Different to be different, I guess.

that still looks dorky, but with much worse ride quality.....
So this thread pretty much confirms what the numbers already show. Most people don't like them, don't want them and wish they would just go away.
I still like them and will continue looking for a manual model. If I get one I will put some better tires on it and may even autocross it if it's allowed.
Just out of curiosity, anyone ever see a Cube/Soul/Xb or Element autocrossed?

No, but last season at a BMWCCA autocross there was a Smart car that ran (and didn't flip over!)
