Many of you wanted to do something in memory of Mike Smith. Flowers... don't last long. Stickers get old and fade. Grassroots Motorsports is doing something great in his memory and YOU can help.
Investing in his daughter's education is a TRULY worthwhile tribute to a great guy we all loved. Carly is an awesome lady headed to Clemson and vet school. Great future ahead of her and we are raising money to help get her the education she needs with an awesome ROTARY project... one Mike would have finished if he could have. A Rotary powered Miata race car!
I encourage you to give what you can. $20 bucks or $10 ... ALL is appreciated. Thanks!

I'm glad someone set up a go fund me for this cause. The previous instructions to donate at a td bank are tough for those who live outside td bank areas.
As long as she doesn't spend it on a skyline.
Sorry, I had to.

no you didn't... bad form. bad bad form
No chance of that. Read the site... the money is going to help finish the car Mike started and it will be sold to help pay for Carly's education (college and Vet school). It is an honor to be a part of something like this. He was a great guy, builder, mentor, racer and most importantly friend. He helped many of us with problems... advice, parts, labor, welding. Always there to help. I hope you guys and gals will step up and do for Mike what you would want others to have done for you and your family. Thanks.

Not to appear crass, but if Toyman01 approves I'm in. Because that smile is infectious, and I miss his presence here. I can't imagine how hard it is on her.

I lived in Charleston and met mike many times. These folks are legit.
Glad to see something like this was setup, that GRM is going to do the work, and it's a good cause.
Hopefully the funding comes through.
Yep, it's true. We're assembling a team, and we'll be finishing his rotary-powered Miata.
It looks like most of the parts are already there, so we're planning on most of this gofundme going to pay Carly's tuition.
Keep an eye on the forum for more details, we'll be chronicling the build for you all.

As long as Carly is willing to occasionally still go by the moniker "Curmudgeonling", I'm in!

Like Tom said, it's happening. I'm not sure of the schedule as yet and I wasn't there for the initial meet, but things are going to be happening.
Carly is a great kid and getting her to school is one of the things Mike always wanted. It's a worthy cause.
This is the proper way to remember mike. My only regret is that I can't be there to help as I now live on the wrong coast.
Guys... donations are pouring in and many from YOU GRM guys! Thanks... this is awesome and it means so much to Carly, Mike's mother and his brothers. They have been amazed with generosity and out pouring of love. You guys and gals are awesome! Please keep it coming. - Ted Theodore

Done.
My own small tribute to Mike will be installing the GT6 front brakes I bought from him onto my Spitfire.
Does anyone know what will happen to the GT6 project he was working on?
Another fundraiser idea might be some GRM/Curmudgeon stickers.
PLEASE ... post this up ANYWHERE you like. It is really appreciated. Ian, the Rotary Triumph GT6 project was not his... was doing it for a friend. I think car will be returned to him and actually, I think the tough part was done (motor mounts, drive shaft fabbed, reinforcement to chassis to handle directional torque (LOL). I know he was putting a hussle on it last month to make space for the miata GRM will be finishing up. Sports Car people are an awesome family... glad to see so many rising up to care for their own in tough times. You all ROCK!

Thanks. I knew he was building it for a friend, but didn't know how close to finished it got. I had been meaning to ask him about the original GT6 rear brakes, but knew he was really busy.
I do not recall the GT6 project being a rotary, but knew it was for someone else. It was a pleasure to send Mike the gas pedal he needed. I hope it worked.
Yes, it's true. South Carolina Region SCCA just donated $100 and has challenged all of the other SCCA regions to donate as well.
I miss him on the brown board... old posts get bumped, and Jesenator is there... come here, see his posts. etc.... lets get his kid to at least a 100 level college class! haha
In.
My condolences and best wishes to Carly "The Curmudgeonling".
