Our Locost project is now at the stage where we need to plumb brake lines. This site will make custom stainless steel lines for us:

Does anyone have a recommendation for what ends we should specify? We are running a Tilton MC, and the calipers are from a Miata.

I am leaning towards #3 for one end and #13 for the other end... but I am not really sure.

Thoughts?

Rob (who is deep in uncharted territory, here).

Plan your system out first a little better. Are you just talking hoses, like from the solid line to the caliper, say a foot or so long? Outer fitting would be whatever is on the caliper, inner would be whatever you choose to use for the hard line. That's the easy way. I re-used the MR2 hoses and MR2 fittings wherever possible. The 10mm brake fittings fit the small SAE sized steel brake lines, and you can use regular SAE sized fittings for the MC side. That's what I did, including re-using the MR2 brake line T's whenever possible.

Agreed. Draw out your brake system like a wiring diagram and identify what each junction looks like in terms of specifications. You'll end up with a mix, that's unavoidable for a Locost.

Your local auto parts store may be able to make brake lines for you as well. A few of the hydraulic stores in town here can also do it.

You'll need to log in to post.
