Longish story; daughter-in-law is a psychiatrist for a school district.  Deal is, you stay for 10 years and we pick up yor student loans. (pretty affluent area)  She starts year ten in September and they are reneging on the deal.  In a budgetary decision they decided to 86  his 2016 CX-5.  It's the Grand Touring edition with a "technical package".  With 22,000 miles on it, Ian thought $18-20,000 is fair, I know he paid quite a bit more.  It got good reviews from GRM.  His is a funny model.  2016 was a major change, half way through the year they made more changes and in 2017 revamped it again.  He rattled off what the changes are, none of them would entice or deter me.

My 91 year old mother in law was told she can no longer drive.  Ian will take over her 2008 Maxima with 55,000 mile on it.  We get a new DD, I get our 2009 Jetta for a beater with a heater and keep salt off the F-150.

Any thought or experiences, especially what to keep an eye on would be helpful.

Thanks, Dan

Reference:  Looks like this and comes with another set of those wheels with Hakkapelita snows.

My wife has been driving a '16 since new. Loves it. It's been 100% bulletproof thusfar. Rear brake pads wear faster than fronts, and it's a little hard on cabin air filters, but we also live on a dirt road.

I recommend you don't back in to yours with a golf cart. Aside from that ours has been entirely trouble-free.

My favorite affordable CUV. Wish you the best with it.

SWMBO had a '14 AWD Touring that was mostly trouble free. It did seem to eat through the rear brakes more than any other car I've owned, but they are cheap to replace. We also had a coil go bad and those aren't particularly cheap for the SkyActive engines.

Overall, it was a good appliance that got good mileage and was rather  good in the snow with Blizzak DM-V1's. One complaint I had with ours was there was a good amount of road noise that found it's way into the cabin. Not sure if they addressed that in the refresh. Ended up getting rid of it with about 80K miles for a '18 Kia Sedona to fit kid 2.0 and our dog.

That is a great color. I really like these cars.

Thanks guys.  $20k fair?  I think it is.  Ian is meticulous/anal about cleanliness, maintenance and keeping it simple, much better than an unknown coming off lease.  He will be up in two weeks and we will fix his Benz wagon up, he may drive Meme's Maxima home.

Trish really like the Escape we had for a few weeks, but you sit in the middle of the car behind a 4ft. deep dash.  Looking forward to this one.

The pic makes it tricky to see how deep the dent is, but she walloped it good. We have a Club Car Carryall Utility cart (it's the kind with the dumptruck back, not club holders). The box is fairly sturdy aluminum. Far sturdier than the tailgate of the Mazda. "It lurched" was her chosen explanation. Luckily the damage was confined to a single panel and didn't affect any hardware, so that was cool. Cost to repair was about $1100, so we didn't bather filing a claim on our $1000 deductible insurance.

Get into the hatch and give it a few licks with a rubber shillelagh.  Stuff happens.....

In reply to JG Pasterjak :

Agree with JG on the brake pads; I replaced the rears at 70k and 140k. Replaced the fronts at 121k. Other than that, it's been trouble-free. I envy that color. When I got my '13 Sport MT, you could only get it in black, dark gray, silver(mine), or white(unobtanium) with a black interior. Truly a " Miata on stilts", and that's a compliment.

We bought a new Grand Touring CX-5. 2014 model.  It was so cool. Keep your foot in it, the engine just keeps pulling. Great handling for an CUV. Never had an issue with it. We both loved it, but used it as a trade-in on a new '16 C7. However, we still talk about that car, and if a little money came our way we might even get another one. Great car!
