I posted a bit back about a daily driver for $6,000. Explained how I like v8s. big and safe feeling cars, and RWD like my Chevy Nova I use to own. Got suggested Crown Vic, I did some digging around and found a Crown Vic LX Sport for a bit over 6k so my price range has increased. Although I really like this car, guy bought it 10 years ago and had it serviced at the same place that's selling it every 10k miles, also chose pretty much every option for an LX Sport when he got it even the moonroof putting it at a $33k car. I'm just wondering what else is around this price range now. I'm looking for something really reliable too, something I can take for 200k miles and like enough to maybe even put a new engine in it. I know you guys are really talented at finding under priced cars, so when I say $9k I mean that I won't have to hunt it down in the price range for 3 months. Thanks again GMR.

(I also test drove a '95 Impala SS, sadly most of em are real beat or turned into DONKS around here)

Here's what I'd go for in that price range. Five of them on CL in Virginia for under 10k, so I would guess prices in NC would be similar (or drive up to Norfolk...2nd one listed for $9k)

GTO is a great car from what I've heard. I've never drove one, so maybe I have to get behind the wheel to become the fan but it's a bit too small and performance lookin for myself.

never thought of GTO as being "small"

wheelbase 110", 62" track weight 3800lbs for a 2004 GTO.

wheelbase 114", 65" track, weight 4050lbs for a 2004 Crown Vic.

They're really pretty similar in chassis size. The Vic just has more front and rear overhang on the body so it's about 16" longer overall.

Or if you want to stick with a big V8 sedan in that price range....

Lexus LS-series from early 2000s or Infinity Q45?

Ah interesting, that is a larger car for a coup. I was standing next to one today while waiting for the vic and was looking it over.

Trying to get my blind self to read the liscense plate of first car so I can run a carfax.

I'm not married to the sedan idea, it will mostly be just me driving. The Vic LX Sport has a center console so it's sorta sits one person better than the other models.

VZW 6150 it looks like to me :)

Guessing the second one, being owned by what seems to be a sailor, could be had the cheapest. He probably found out he's about to deploy and needs to sell it, lol.

Big, V8 and RWD? Sounds like a pickup truck to me.

WZW it was. Clean enough carfax, yea the second one does look best. I dunno. Looking at the GTO I just dont get the feeling in my gut like I get when I look at the Vic. Maybe I need to get in the drivers seat of the GTO. Crappy picture I took at the dealer, it also hasn't been detailed yet.the price they want is a strong price for an '04 vic but from what I've read it's a decent price for an LX Sport with moonroof. It also has a superb history, owned by some old accountant that pretty much said yes to every upgrade / repair the mechanics suggested. It's also got a pair of nice tires on it that will last me 30k miles or so.

I would buy the Vic. I doubt your gonna find anything more suited to what you are looking for than that.

I think I'm at that point. I signed the offer at the dealers so it is mine, with my option to back out while it gets serviced and detailed. Just getting a bit gun shy because I'm the type that doesn't like committing to stuff long term.

It's sure going to scratch that marauder itch of mine that I've had since forever. I've considered a marauder and did some heavy shopping and anything around 8$k was just more work than I could handle, I'm a shade tree mechanic now so a clean car is very valuable to me.

LOL

Welcome to the Coldsnap bought a car thread!!!

Commit to it and bask in it's glory. That is a very nice car. I really like the color.

I am a GM guy and have owned a '96 Impala SS and even though I am convinced the Impala is a much better car it's been 16 years since the last one rolled off the assembly line. The ones worth having are just too expensive now and the rest are cheap enough that the idiots have gotten a hold of them. At this point I really wouldn't be interested in DD'ing B-body SS.

Hah, it happened! Color is nice, looks grey doing the day then at night it turns into a mean looking black.

I hear you about how the affordable '95-'96 Impala SS have been passed from idiot to idiot. When talking to the sales guy at Ford he said something about how he could probably put it on Ebay and sell it to someone who would put 22" rims on it and pay well for the car. I told him I'd find a way to buy the car before that happened to prevent it.

Now to sell my Nissan, seems like I can get around 3k for it. That will help with the cost of the Vic.
