I just had to go drive a new 14 Jetta TDI with a 6spd..... Drives like a gasser with only a hint of diesel rattle upfront. A quiet 1800 rpm at 70mph. And holy E36 M3 that a full size adult can fit in the back seat with a full size adult driving.... Plus all for under 22k!!!!
Sign me up! Oh wait I did! Just have to supply final paperwork tomorrow.

22k? Damn.. That's significantly cheaper than i would have guessed.
Pops just bought a 14 Jetta Sport Wagon. Non-TDi (they don't drive very far, negating the advantages of the diesel) and they love it.
So I'm going to stay away from test driving a TDi then. Danger zone.
I test drove a 10 Jetta sportwagen TDI last year. If I had the money, I probably would have bought one with a manual. They are great cars. One day, I will buy one. I also like the diesel chatter which must make me an oddball.
Ranger, be sure to get the wagon
No wagons. Those become 30k real quick on top of the wife veto.

Ah, I was wondering how you found a Jetta for so cheap. I ASSumed you were talking about the Sportwagen.
Yea, sedan value edition.
Loved our TDI (it was a wagon. Audi A4). It was probably the first vehicle the wife and I loved equally. 45mpg combined daily driving, and cruised smooth as butter at 90mph (legally, mind you).
Only problem was it never "felt" like we were speeding when we were over the speed limit.
Enjoy sir!
I think they paid around 22-26k for their gas powered JSW. The TDi is more because it comes with more stuff standard and because people are willing to pay that much for them.
Don't understand the wife vetoing a wagon over a sedan, but whatever.

Same wife hates the Swiss Army knife like qualities of a minivan for the gas guzzler SUV. Go figure.
Yeah, my wife has similar issues. Drives a Highlander which is just a jacked up Camry wagon. Yet dislikes minivans or station wagons.
Some people and logic just don't get along.
