I can see being impressed by the thieves' brazenness and their cunning but i bet any of us would be less than thrilled to find that someone had come into our garage and walked off with a load of our stuff.
I am applauding them. Especially in the UK with cameras out the wazoo, that is a ballsy high profile move that just doesn't happen anymore.
Sure there are bigger thefts every day in the banking industry, but those shiny happy people are taking advantage of a system they created, so they don't count.
I put this up their with high end art thieves or really the Lufthansa(sp?) cash grab back in the 70s that they showed in Goodfellas.
No one is that organized anymore, frankly, I didn't think people had it in them anymore.
When the majority of thefts are just crimes of opportunity, a part of me can really respect the thought, patience, and work involved in an operation like this.
It's more like stealing the bait from a bear trap than stealing candy from a baby.
I feel like all of this stuff is just a part of the past, because at the very least we're not told if/when it happens very often. I don't ever remember hearing about a major art theft in my lifetime, that's always been the stuff of movies since security systems met science fiction, so maybe it's nostalgia talking.
This was, essentially, a victimless crime, compared to someone coming into our garage and cleaning it out. Jaguar range rover are a very large international corporation. This stuff was covered by insurance(I'd imagine) and the ridiculous markup people pay for their vehicles. Almost like if someone stole trailers of Wal-Mart goods, except Wal-Mart goods might still work in a month. E36 M3, how bad of a quarter did they have? This could just be an insurance scam to raise working capital.
