I have enjoyed much of his writing over the years. Sad to see him go.

Been a fan since 1965.

Two Davis-isms I will always remember:

"Turn in your hymnals to 2002" (in an article about a Guess What)

and

"Oh Rapture unbearable", (regarding an Alfa romeo 5-speed)

And there are countless others. What a guy.

Other than perhaps LKS and Peter Egan, no one can touch DED. Period.

"and it felt like losing your virginity, going into combat and tasting your first beer all in about seven seconds"

DED quote when reviewing the '64 GTO.

Just spent some time with David E. Davis two weeks ago at Amelia Island. We discussed his health problems and his plans to sell his farm, but our conversation made it sound like it was all years away, not days.

While I credit him with getting me into this business, (because I did not like the pompous way he talked down to readers), in person, he was always very polite and complimentary to me and what we were doing.

He was an icon in our business.
