For our local rallycross group I did a little statistical analysis just for the hell of it, figured I'd post it up here.
So the parameters were that I only counted "regulars" - defined as drivers who have attended at least 4 of the 6 events we've had so far this season. Our average turnout is something like 70 cars, so that's a statistically pretty large number of drivers.
Then I broke it down two ways. First, by class. This is the average cones hit per event, per driver, in each class
So a few notes on this. SR is basically three drivers, two of which codrive a Crown Vic and annihilate cones constantly. MA's points leader has one of the lowest averages of any driver (9 cones all season), but MA's 2nd place driver (Kimmett) has more cones than anyone and is STILL second in points. That's how fast he is. PR is mostly Shawn (moxnix) and his codriver Katie competing against each other, so not sure they care about cones that much.
MR's numbers are kind of funky as well. The top 5-6 drivers in MR actually average about 1.2 cones per event (all of them in BMWs), while our three BRZ's average over 7 cones per event and our three MR2s average over 5 - though some of the BRZs and MR2s are VERY fast drivers, just not as clean.
We have a variety of courses, from very technical, turny setups to huge wide-open racecourses. We do use a LOT of cones....I'd guesstimate something like 200-250 per course.
Here's the breakdown of all the drivers, in case you're wondering, and their classes. A good dozen or so GRM Forum folks on this list, I might note:
Overall the MA guys go for speed and are willing to accept a good number of cones. MR, on the other hand, you can see at the bottom of the list there - The four there at the bottom are the four top points leaders - in MR 1-2 cones pretty much guarantees you WON'T win that day. Pretty interesting how the different classes attack the course.
Anyhow, thought I'd share, kick off discussion of how it is in YOUR local area.
