But being my wife's car I don't want to tie it up unnecessarily any more than I have to. Besides, when I take her car, she has to take my car. She called me yesterday on her way to work and said "Wow, this thing is fast!" and in the background I could hear the "FFFYYYYSHHHH... FFFYYYYSHHHH... FFFYYYYSHHHH..." from the BOV every time she shifted. I don't need that stress. I think my next move is a call to a service adviser at he dealership where I bought the car, and emailing the pic. If they have to go to Mazda anyway, they'd probably just email them a picture, too. jg

take another picture with an actual ruler for scale, "about 3/8"" can leave some room for fudging, a ruler can't

I have a couple of those for "official" reference. The reflection of the ruler sort of obscured the spot, though, so it was tough to make out detail.

My 03 protege had (well, probably still has, but I don't have it anymore) rust starting on the bottom of the hatch, rear fenderwells, and underneath a few of the doors. Dealer told me to come back when one of them was a hole. Traded that car in for a VW.

I also had a problem with paint flaking off my wheels. There was a TSB about replacing the wheels under warranty, and I was in the vin range. The first dealer told me my wheels weren't going to be replaced because my damage was caused by "some kind of wheel cleaner" and not the factory documented paint defect. The second dealer I took it too ordered my replacements without even looking at the car.

Some dealer service departments are just hard to deal with. I don't know why they felt the need to fight me on the wheels...

Probably just had an audit or other official spanking and was told to "keep the numbers down". I've seen it happen at places I've worked. I didn't stay very long after that.
