Sorry for being "that guy" this weekend. Everything I did was last minute, rushed, and half-assed. Nearly missing the drag race due to a whiskey-coma was just icing on the cake. Thanks for putting up with my shenanigans, and the shenanigans of people like me. Colleen(my girlfriend) actually said that we should get the most spectacular failure award, not because of anything that happened with the car, but we failed as people in general. I promise to be more prepared next year, and seriously, thanks again for putting on a kick ass event!

Sort of begs the question...
Nah, nevermind. I'm sure "that guy" know who he/she is, and if they don't they'll be appropriately informed, no need for a public calling-out (unless "that guy" is a total tool who should never be seen again, in which case by all means go ahead).
Corey you are being way to hard on yourself. So long as you entertained yourself, not ending in jail time or a hospital visit, it's all good. You two were the only ones to hang with the Hong till 6:30 am on Friday night.
I do have a few "words" of advice : Rome, 200, They, Viet Nam, JFK.
What happens in Gainsville, stays in Gainsville.
Sounds like I really missed out.
Can I get honorable mention for most spectacular failure award for a Challenge car that didn't make it?

So Guido made it, I assume.
Guido was on his best behavior. He didn't even gloat when the Berkeley coughed up its differential.
Much.

Actually, I felt like "that guy" on Saturday when I was reprimanded for going (way) too fast in the pits. It wouldn't have been so bad if the same guy hadn't already told me once not to be a dumbass the night before......once again, sorry Per. Funny thing is I don't get away with dumb stuff like that at my own track; why didn't I think Iabout those same rules when I am somewhere else? Dunno. But I can tell you all that I will not have my head up my a** next year and also promise not to hurl Matt Step into any other Challenge cars. I really love this event and the attitudes of those at this event and would hate to see it have to be "tightened up" because of my actions.

Les, you weren't even close to being the biggest hooligan at the track. after the drags there was a understeer demonstration by one car i won't identify -- i think they thought they were TeH DoRiFt0 KiNgS y0! -- and some more asinine hooliganism by two cars that weren't even in the challenge, but were with someone who was -- that did far more to jeopardize our standing with the track owner.
note to challengers: if you invite friends, tell them not to be shiny happy persons. it could really berkeley it up for all of us.

yeah, that was definitely not-cool.

I will no longer notify my friends when I am in the state, that was totally my fault , then I got blamed , then the one driver admitted to the official it was him.. What a fiasco.
:(
On the upside , even though our car ran like crapola we spent the entire 26 hr drive back planning out 2009 efforts..What a great event.
Since our efforts were lost we were happy to help out another team by loaning them parts from our car, I guess thats what it's all about.

nah man, keep them coming, just have them build a challenge car to do it in, instead of ripping up the place afterwards

Actually , the guy in the black fiero wants to enter next year... But still a huge apology to everyone.
I am on the prowl for a rust free car. Our problems were due to lack of time.. We got the car running Wed morning , then the dahs harness caught fire , we replaced that and left wed night @ 11 drove 25+ hrs and got to gainsville the next morning @ 3:30.... Bled the brakes in the parking lot and worked on the car until 5, slept til 8 and headed to the autocross.
I was pretty happy with a 45 sec time on a car with crappy Avon Road race tires running no boost.
ahhh... more plans (and excuses) for next year.

apology accepted.
what happened to your car at / after the autocross? there's no drag time listed for you. i'm sorry i didn't get a chance to check out your challenge car or your tow wagon, as they both looked interesting from my paddock space. i chased fan belt gremlins all day friday (only got 2 runs at the autox), then finally used the jonny pruitt suggestion of putting a really short belt on to bypass the alternator and that worked well enough for me to get a few back to back drag passes in the books.
next year, indeed.

I had an injector stick open.. Which sucks.. I had a friend come to tune the car, and we had it screaming on 17 Psi.. On the way back into the strip , the A/F went so rich it wouldn't run. While it didn't look like much ,Ii do have low compression vitara pistons , used ARP head studs and a T04E turbo. a car like mine should go 11's with a good tune... just needed more time
Even thou we got a DNF ,I learned a TON. I am going to swap my parts over to a clean southern car. Our car has too much cancer to do well in any concours, even though it was wearing a nice new paint job and several gallons of bondo...
For having no power at all and avon road race slicks ,I was pretty happy with the 45 sec autocross run.
People took more interest in the wagon then the civic!! haha
