No it was his drunken cousin.
It didn't even register that the little blue hatch caught and left him.
For a while I was the person who fixed problem students at PCA days. Back before passengers needed like gear I used to take them for a ride in the Datsun. The typical comment was "oh my God I had no idea"
With that said I would have pulled this guy in before he completed a lap.
I can't believe an M97 could survive being overrevved that many times.
The tach stops at 8000RPM and it sat there for a good 2 seconds.
Was totally expecting a crash but I guess a money-shift makes sense too. What's amazing to me is that he seems to have more manual-driving experience than steering experience. If he was as bad at shifting as he was at steering he wouldn't have got out of the pits.

I've done other track days where they just have everyone self-select which run group to be in and inevitably there's someone with marginal skills in the fast group because he's got a quick car and an ego to match.
This is why I'm wary of going in the fastest group even in situations where I probably should. So if there are only 2 groups, I'd rather have to deal with the traffic of slow-moving noobs who know they're noobs than be on track with one of these guys.
Looking over his shoulder to "merge" onto the track. YIKES!
That couldn't possibly have been an instructor beside him, right?

I was going to watch it again and focus on the tach but I can't bring myself to do it.

I was watching it after the first downshift. The longer the video ran the worse they got.
"It's great that Porsche engineered in a sweet combination shifter and grab handle so I can hold myself up in left-handers!"
couldn't watch the whole video, only made it 1 minute
I am just amazed at his lack of ability to self correct even a little bit. If you can't make the turn, maybe find a way to turn the steering wheel a little further.
That's usually the first step for most people before they try slowing down.

If it is an instructor, he's equally as terrible as the driver (actually, more terrible). If its not, how did the driver get into a position where's he giving rides to a non-instructor? What a total sh!t show.

This is why anyone shopping for a Porsche should have a Durametric. It's a Porsche-specific ECM tool that has a function that reports time the engine was at the rev-limiter and the time it spent over-revved. Of course, the cloud of smoke out the back of this particular Porsche makes a Durametric not necessary.

I'm not even a track guy, but I could only take a couple of minutes before I fast-forwarded to the engine blowing at around the 7 min mark.
OOooooffff, yeah probaby a buddy they were showing off for in the passenger seat and not an instructor. Guy has the enthusiasm but not the self control or the talent.

I mean. Clearly, it couldn't.

The blue smoke and the punkity-punkity sound work too.
I can't decide which is better:
"Samir....you're breaking the car"
or

It could or the video would have been over in 15 seconds instead of ~6 minutes.
His primary concern seemed to be the relationship between the shifter and the exhaust note.
I've been on track with guys like this and I've opted to pit for a stop and go, just to get away from them.

I learned something new today. Something that almost made going through that painful experience worth it.
I mean, come on. Viewing that should be considered Torture under the Geneva conventions for for those with even a minuscule of mechanical sympathy. Or, you know, knowing how to drive.
I don't know, all he needed was a steering wheel speed knob. I know it sure helps on my riding mower while drinking a beer.
So, is it easier driving on the right side of the car compared to the left side or no difference for those who have driven both ways?
