From the "Nylon Bushing" thread I started a while ago, I decided to go with Delrin as a bushing material and I'm very happy to report that yesterday my meter long bar of Delrin was magically turned into 20 pairs of bushing halves!
And this is where they'll live (eventually):
I mocked them up in the lower shock mount (since the U-bracket dimensions were the same) for your enjoyment:
Next on the list are the stainless steel inserts! (or aluminum, I haven't decided yet, so if you have any thoughts on that subject please feel free to share)
That is all
Looks great! Don't forget to the zerks in accessible locations...
Use SS tubing for the inserts alum will bond to the bolt and never want to come out.
Nice work!

well, it will if you dont use zinc coated fasteners. Add a zerk fitting to add grease which will keep moisture out. Aluminum wont rust away like SS will over time, and is more rigid.
That arm looks very "Locost." Is your build thread on here somewhere?
Choose the correct SS, it won't rust!

all metals can oxidize (well, except for highly noble ones like Gold and Platinum). If it has Iron in it, it will oxidize, regardless of the carbon, molybdenum, chromium etc content...it may take a loooong time, but all SS will rust. Alloys of Aluminum or Copper will also corrode, but their oxides provide a protective layer, preventing more corrosion.
The time frames involved in an automobile mean that good stainless effectively doesn't rust. We're not talking the Sistine Chapel here.

Locost GT40 but no, no build thread. I'm on a very small monthly budget so progress is reaaaalllllyyy slooooooow... I figured people would get bored of "well gee, not much happened this month..." (that and, since I can't ship it home, my chassis is currently made of wood...)
I DO however watch THIS for motivation!
I was already leaning toward SS inserts and based on the responses here it looks like I was on the right track! So SS it is, now to find a supplier locally.
The machinist who did the work made those bushings for $10 and a C-17 hat, the down side is I was kind of hoping to do the lathe work myself
oh yeah, and zerk fittings are definitely on the list.
