Clearly you've realized the answer here is to purchase a miata, attend a welding class, commense caging said miata and let things progress accordingly from there.

I do this too, and I have 2 Miatas! There are no less than 4 cars for sale right now that given space and funds, I would buy immediately. My wife would murder me.

My primary defense against this has always been to consistently be in WAY over my head on one big project- it usually works, but sometimes ends up with me in that position on multiple projects instead.

I highly recommend it because unlike a lot of things, you get immediate gratification in seeing your work result in something. Also, the cross section of society that attends almost certainly has problems that will make yours seem not so bad.

LOL. When I took a welding class at the local Vo-Tech years ago there were two guys wearing county issued ankle bracelets and a recently divorced woman who smoked cigars in a class size of maybe 15. It is an education in more than one way.

It also led to me making my own roll cages, suspension parts, tables, railings... so it killed a lot more time than just the class and it changed my shopping focus from "the car" to fabrication tools. For a while anyway. OP, You will definitely never look at a problem in the garage in quite the same way.

Bring one of those $500 LS donors down here when you pick up something rust-free!

Oh, and usually when life starts getting me down I try to join/start a band. A cheap Miata is a way better choice than that.

Ive never really felt depressed but when im bored and life is going way too smooth i tend too start looking at more projects. Luckily my wife is pretty good at talking sense into me.

Everytime i try a cheaper hobby it ends up just as exspensive. Without flipping beaters this year im having trouble with this myself.

How is it "being stupid and rash" to buy a car you find yourself continually coming back to desiring and that would genuinely enjoy owning? As long as adding a Miata isn't going to add any stress to your life due to finances, storage, or passenger requirements...Then I honestly see no reason not to get one.

I have owned two (mostly at the same time) and greatly miss having at least one around. There is no doubt that I would own one right now, if it was reasonable for me to do so. I find them to be very therapeutic machines, even in totally stock form.

The crime is that he has $500 LS donors and ISN'T getting his own cheap miata. Get enough of them to strip and flip, purchase miata, stir with help from Keith and have your own XXX illegally imported from Mexico strength antidepressant. Complete with such side effects as massive amounts of tire destruction, possible oversteer and frequently surging deep into triple digits resulting in possible loss of license.

Good point, I just saw a $750 94 Miata listed on a FB group down here last night. Said it ran, but was stuck in reverse. Looked like it had been parked under a fir tree for a year, but otherwise not too bad.
