I got tagged in a facetube post for the new DFW Rallycross page. They're cutting courses right now outside of Sulphur Springs and hope to have the first race the first weekend in October. I've been waiting for this for a long time, now to find an affordable E30 or old volvo.....
Plus they seem to be following the width greater than height rule, and allow to run a variety of vehicles.
Could in theory run my jeep Cherokee.

I'm sure if they let that one guy run his truck, your cherokee would be fine.
nice! A bit far for me (ok, way far for me), but glad to see new RX clubs popping up!
Saw this on FB as well and despite not having a car for it, or the desire to do it, still got excited about it lol
I had heard rumors of this. Might be worth the drive.

Currently looking for a car to run in this and could use some advice from you veteran rallycrossers. I know there's a million "what rallycross car" threads, but I've narrowed it down pretty far already. I'm trying to decide between an E30, Aw11 MR2, FB rx7, and a 944. I've found 1 or 2 examples of each within a reasonable driving distance so far. Keep in mind I'm 6'4" with long legs and a fairly normal torso so i need seat adjustment. The car will be used for rallycross primarily with some autocross as well just to have some fun with friends that don't like getting their cars dirty, probably on the same setup. Any thoughts?
Edit: forgot to mention my backup plan is a Volvo 240/242 and the backup to the backup is a 240 wagon roller a buddy has and a junkyard motor, likely LT1.

If this becomes a thing, I'll probably drop some squshier springs for my XR4Ti in and come out and play.

Has anyone tried to talk to Texplex park in Midlothian? The host short course UTV races and Trophy truck things, I would imagine that a rallycross wouldn't bother them too much... One of the SCCA guys basically said they were open to it, but needed somone to set it up. I would love to and dug into it for a bit, but I'm too crazy busy to add it to my plate.

Not sure. I think this may be happening on the organizers private land, so no money to rent it out or anything. That could be a good backup option though.
In reply to shagles :
I just ran my second Gambler 500 with it (just this weekend) and it likes bouncing around in the dirt.

They went live with the website today and posted rules for entries. Nothing over 65" tall at the roof, and must be wider than tall. That's it.
www.northtexasrallycross.com
So looking at the rules its basically scca rules without the stupid sxs ban and convertible hardtop rules. Which is a plus to me.
The width to heigh rule and nothing taller than 65" rule is actually stricter than the scca rules which dont have a height/width or max height rule.
The rule basically bans all SUVs and trucks though. It bans subaru foresters and outbacks.

That's the point, essentially. They don't want things rolling over all the time. Autocross also has the "Wider than tall" rule and there's some trucks that can run if they're lowered. Standard Fiestas are banned for SCCA autocross (too tippy, AKA only ST's).
By wikipedia, a stock xj is 64 height by 68 width. Will have to measure mine.
Finally got an update on this. First event is this Sunday at Redneck Off-road Heaven in Ardmore OK. Looks like a similar drive for most of DFW as the place in Como was going to be. $10 to get in and they'll have a couple of courses set up.

agreed - the madness is spreading! Maybe one summer we can do a mass road trip and tour a bunch of rallyX events.

Did this event happen as planned?
Very cool, but Sulphur Springs isn't really that close to DFW. Ardmore is probably closer. And if you are headed to Ardmore, you are really close to hanging out on the grounds of the infamous Tiger King......

I actually have relatives in that area who live in a mobile home.
I have an old front wheel drive Chevy Lumina that I don't currently have a use for.
Will that work as a rallycross car?
That's cool but, Damnit. I live in capital of Texas and still nothing local to me.
As far as what to run, when I used to go there was so a wide variety just pick your chassis and go.
My only advice is if you want to place in the top keep car stock for awhile. Couple basic mods gets you bumped into a class where yea it's still fun, but you finish the day towards the bottom of list.
That's how I managed to get 1st when I went, I was the weirdo with the only stock WRX..
I think it is required for a rallycross car to be a bit e36m3y. And it seems at least in SF the platform doesnt really matter as long as it is reliable. see a 89 Buick Reatta being in the top 5 at nationals for a few years.
In reply to TXratti :
It did i couldn't make it but the guys that went had a blast. One guy even brought out a chrome rally fighter.

There's generally some rallycross just north of Austin. Look up Texas Rallycross on Facebook.
