I knew EV’s were quick in a straight line... but I didn’t realize the Tesla Model 3 was capable of winning SCCA B-Street nationals against the GT350, M2, 1M, Focus RS, 987S, Camaro SS 1LE, etc.

I suppose I’m going to have stop making assumptions about them not handling well due to their heft.

Thoughts?

Yes, I was doing the social media for solo matters the scca page on that course because they ran the heat after me, and David Marcus drove the wheels off of that car.

Before I get any further, this is the FYI to JG and the entire team at the home office grm he is in Orlando and you guys should call him and bring him in for a live show.

Getting back to Tesla, the real story line is that none of the cars that has been dominant in the class this year, besides the Tesla, were in the top three. the M2 and the 1M were both left wanting as well as the Porsche Cayman.

If you go search there's a thread from earlier this year when JG talked to a Tesla owner at the Dixie tour and I've posted in there about my experience with the Tesla Model 3 as a passenger on track and an autocross with a national champion at the wheel

Tesla has the Dynamics set up properly on that vehicle and why you cannot turn off the traction control, the beauty of the EV is that unlike a gas vehicle where there's a delay when power is reintroduced on an EV it's an on-off switch and its immediate so the car is constantly able to monitor traction and you have just an amazing pull out of every single corner and the car has rotation under throttle and it's absolutely fantastic

It's a big heavy car, really not enough Tire on it for the weight but the power and how it delivers are just perfect for autocross

The story that makes me very happy is my buddy Donour who was in third. got Vindicated in his evora he asked for the car to be classed in B Street 2 years ago and all the Cayman and BMW drivers thought he was stupid

This car. FTD at our last event.

Yeah, it's heavy.

The thing is, it didn't look that cumbersome negotiating the turns, while the acceleration out of the turns and through the straights was amazing.

The NIO EP9 and VW IDR also should've clued you in laughEVs aren't the first heavy cars to turn well...

I've been saying this for a while, it's going to become very difficult to beat AWD EVs in the next few years. Total available grip and gearing are the new bottlenecks of straight-line speed, and EV manufacturers are starting to realize that gearboxes can be worth the weight for performance cars. If some new battery technology knocks all the weight out of EVs, that'll be the end of ICE competitiveness.

Is there an Autonomous Autox Mode?

Can I just buy a Tesla3 , bring it to my local autox, push the button, and they hand me a FTD trophy?  devil

Not if my autonomous is better than your autonomous.

Low cg and mountains of instantaneous, linear torque are the stuff that autocross dreams are made of.

This one pig that turned out to be a prima balerina.

Not knowing anything about modern cars I just googled the curb weights of a few of the cars in the original post.

The model 3 without the long range battery pack is pretty much exactly (+/- 25lbs or so) the same weight as the Camaro and Mustang listed yet it is the only car in this thread called out for being overly heavy.

I think you're looking at the base 3 weight, not the performance model which I believe is a little over 4000lbs.

I street drove a full trim model 3 p on re71rs recently and it was comical. To my senses it was all numb enough that I couldn't really tell what the car was doing at any moment, but I could get it somewhat reasonably loaded up in a corner then roll the throttle to the floor and it would just take off.
