I just impulse-bought a second one & I'll combine the two to make one great one. Then I'll berkeley it up by sticking a Vette motor in it

They did a RWD Volvo one a long time ago and I think the 960 was briefly mentioned but it focused on the Turbo Bricks (240 and 740).
Apparently the April 2004 issue covered turbos...
Hey, the web version even saved me asking whether I was correct in recalling that the 9 is a facelifted 7 (it is).
This thread was third in my search results for "volvo guide" on grassrootsmotorsports.com.
I wrote it, quite a while back. Does mention the 940/960, as they really were just updated 740/760

Don't know why it says Alan wrote it.
As you've discovered, the 960 is more or less a facelifted 760. The 9-series rounded off a few corners, and the sedans got the more sloped rear window/higher rear deck design. Under the sheetmetal, the 9's have SIPS (Side Impact Protection System) which beefs up the shell a bit.
Probably the most significant variable in the 960 series is the rear suspension. The 92-94 960 sedan carried over the multilink coil spring suspension of the 960, while the wagons had the good 'ol live axle. In '95, the 960 got a facelift and moved to a transverse composite leaf spring independent rear (like the Corvette), and this was used in both the sedan and wagon variants. The 95- models also used the higher positive offset wheels that the FWD models (850/S70/V70) wore.
