I couldn't agree more. They seem to be making things more expensive just for the sake of making them expensive.
From the article: "Despite looking like junkyard relics, the wheels are actually custom CNC-machined pieces", "Both seats have been recovered in a combination of wild-caught alligator and buffalo hides(!) that have been dyed to the same Hermes hue as John F. Kennedy's briefcase. The carpet is Rolls-Royce Wilton wool bound in buffalo as well, and an Aston Martin vintage mohair headliner finishes out the indoors."
I bet the "rusty, faded" paint job probably cost more than the amount spent on paint than every single challenge car, from every single challenge added together. The seats are cool, but should be in a car with a great paint job. And recycling an Aston Martin headliner for your rusty Chevy? Why? If you're going for the found-in-a-field sleeper look on the outside, you should do that on the inside too.
Although, the car is going to SEMA, so I guess the whole point is to showcase what they can do, so showing that they can machine their own wheels, and that they can do incredible custom interiors with exotic materials and any kind of paint job you want, in that way I guess it makes sense.

The article doesn't mention anything about the exterior, and from the pictures it's not clear if it's original or not (one photo shows the bumper and some of the front trim which does look unrestored.)
The interior is way over the top, though. The billet steering wheel doesn't fit the decor either.
Needs moar pedals (a third one next to the brake pedal, specifically), and less animal on the inside. The croc/buffalo/honey badger skin doesn't really add anything, just makes it look like it's owned by a huge douche who likes to have other people kill things and sew it into a car for him. Otherwise, fairly cool.
Oh, but the Challenge '50s Chevy was way cooler. And cheaper.
just another big dollar car trying to get in on the "rat rod" craze.. i think if i had $100k into a modern chassis, drivetrain, and interior then i think i'd at least spring for a gallon of Rustoleum and a roller brush to make it look half way decent..
a couple of us have pulled off similar for less...way less.
cool yes, but i've got similar front end, 4 link, 4 wheel discs hanging off the plenty strong factory fully boxed frame. i'm an ls swap away from the same car, but i like my small block for now.
I like my endangered species skin as much as the next guy, but that car needs crushed velvet at best.
So yeah, I appreciate the low buck approach a ton more than this overbuilt pretty-boy toy.
While I do like it, it seems a shame to hang a derelict body on all that craftsmanship. Then again, it's ballsy enough to maybe work.
i dig it, but there are two details i would change: one, the seats look like luggage, and probably aren't all that comfy. two, the pedals don't match, and the gas pedal linkage should be invisible. black that E36 M3 out!

Id be all for a completely bone stock 1952 Chevy interior...pretty looking new gauges, clean, fresh carpet an stock upholstery fabric (on some buckets of course - I know I know, they werent available with buckets, but who cares). Gimme a factory fresh interior with Oklahoma cornfield fresh paint.
Yes, it has been done before.. it's an old fad by now, maybe almost a decade? I remember reading about the fad when it was new in hot rod magazine and i unsubscribed from them many years ago (because they refused to stop having scantily clad female models occasionally).
Honestly, spending the most amount of money possible to make something look like crap is a horrible indulgence that reminds me of all the starving people in the world.
Im sorry, but if you CNC out some steelies and actively hunt and kill wild animals just to make a car look like that, you are a douche in my book.
And i LIKE the car itself! But the money/mindset that went into it ruins the end result for me.
I'll just leave this here... $2007 - add in some endangered species-derived trim and claim the steelies were specially forged...

Those are fashion models. They aren't really starving - they do it on purpose to make fat girls feel inadequate and buy ugly clothes.
It's borderline, mainly silly, but that's a SEMA build for you. I like Haas' better, too.
Now, of that patina is fake, somebody - possibly several somebodies - is due for a swift nutkicking.

+100
Cool is hard to fake. Another nod here to Patgizz's Bel Air... Not a rat by any means, it just screams "La Carrera Panamerica" to me, and I really dig that.
The original car would look great with a deep green or black with semi-gloss. It can still be low-key, and maybe it would actually match the interior a bit.

thats kinda what i went for. it looks kinda ratty right now, 5 years of parking outside have taken their toll, and i may be inclined to start body work...or just make it faster.
