I don't think this made it over here just yet. If so, oops.

When I was working at a used euro dealer we got an E90 version in and wow it was almost as much fun and powerful as a 335i.

Would defiantly get one!

That was the 6cyl diesel though, no?

I could have sworn that I saw a 3er Diesel on the road last year.

SO MANY DIESELS!

There has been a 335i diesel for awhile in the e90 body. A pretty potent one too from what I've heard.

Yeah the old body had a turbo 6 diesel making 265hp and something like 425 TORQUES (Sorry, Clarkson moment). The thing was damn near as quick as the 335i and apparently felt like riding a tidal wave. However, it lacked (somewhat) in the MPG department which is the whole reason for the oil burner in the first place in a car (little to no towing in other words). Awesome motor though. You did have to put the really expensive pee in it though. That stuff sucks and I hope and presume the 4 cylinder won't need it. I'll take a 328dT thank you.

Def? The new one will probably need it to. They have to keep the def people subsidized and employed after all

Dad already vowed he won't buy a tractor with that crap on it.

Yeah, why would you want an engine that gets better fuel economy, makes more power, AND runs cleaner? That's just crazy talk.

I finally experienced a modern Diesel that has all of the fancy emissions equipment on it. IT DOESN'T REEK LIKE A PARTS WASHER and it drove like a gasoline engine. WHy do people want to do away with DEF? If you want something that stinks, smokes, and generally pollutes a lot, just get a 3.0 Mitsubishi powered van and let the valve covers leak all over the exhaust manifolds, that will get you most of the same effect.

carandriver said: What, a 330d? "We haven't given up on the diesel in the U.S. at all," a company source tells us. As it does with the new 3 sedan, BMW will offer a six-speed manual and an eight-speed automatic on its gasoline-powered models, but the 330d likely will be automatic-only.

Diesel wagon!

No manual?

On Fuelly, the oil burner averages about 7mpg better than the gas car. About 30mpg combined. I could live with that!

And I just want to inject more urea into the enviroment. I'll pass. On top of, just another thing to add and carry in their vehicle. People are lazy. Plus the whole shutdown the damn engine when you run out, even when driving down the road is BS.

Why do we in America, have to put up with DEF, when the rest of the world doesn't?

Better economy? Won't happen as long as you have to regen the particulate filter.

Europe requires DEF, in 2x the amount used in the US actually, and urea isn't released from the exhaust, it's catalyzed in the exhaust.

I'll let you chew on this.

On the 6.0/6.4 Powerstrokes, which did not use DEF, regen requirements were in direct relation to how hard you were driving it. More load = more regen.

On the 6.7 Powerstroke, which does use DEF, regen is inverse to how hard you load it. More load means less regen, idling around means it needs to regen more often.

I'm thinking it's because the DEF allows combustion temps to be super hot since they can reduce NOx in the catalyst instead of with cool, less-efficient combustion, and the hotter exhaust means the soot burns off instead of collecting in the soot trap. Maybe.

Either way, DEF allows the engine to run better and the pollution can be dealt with after the fact, instead of making the engine run in a cleaner yet less powerful or efficient range.
