I got this mitutoyo 1" digital micrometer for free because the thimble was stuck. Well I was able to get it unstuck but I find that the thimble doesn't zero correctly, in the picture you'll see the micrometer is closed all the way but the micrometer still reads above zero. The digital part of the micrometer will turn on but when I hit zero I get an error E05 message. I'm pretty sure the two issues are related. I could send it out for repair but that isn't very cheap or grassroots. Another issue is that the spindle is still pretty tight in the bore so to speak. I don't know much about these things so please forgive my ignorance.

Here are some pics and thanks for any suggestions!

Bah. Digital is for girlymen who can't read vernier...

I think that might just need to be sent away. Might be a bit pricey, but its a good unit, which should last for the rest of your life if you don't pound nails with it. Worth a little research into repair price, anyway.

FTFY.

I'd love to be able to afford a set of those. It would be worth at least checking on the cost of the repair. That or take it apart and see if they will send you what ever is broken.

I have that same mic. I'll look at the instructions to see if it says anything about trouble codes.

Isn't one of those buttons a "Set Zero"?

Guys at work that can't to metric - english conversions in their head mic something up, set zero, go from english to metric and then wind it back to closed. The answer comes up in the other language.

Throw it away and get a vernier type.

Thanks for the replies, I think I'm going to contact longisland indicator and just send it off. If I can get it fixed for 60$ I'm still ahead of the game.

I'll keep y'all posted as to what I do!
