Went to the local dirt track last night. Great fun! These guys race some crazy cars, like a 1977 Lincoln Town Car. I also took some video (just with my cell phone) of the compact class figure 8 race. Seems highly dangerous! And fun!

I went to a dirt track for the first time a few weeks ago with mrs dx and her family. It was Williams grove raceway in central pa. Mrs dx's dad was a racer back in the 70s. It was the world of outlaws feature that night. Pretty cool to watch those cars go down the straight full throttle and than hit the curve and slide around. I'll. have to dig up video and pics and post them.

Jalopies are fun but that's not real dirt racing.

Williams Grove is one of the legendary tracks 1/2 mile banked oval with sticky clay.

On a good night the winged sprinters can run full throttle all the way around the track with a ridiculous corner entry speed as high as 120mph! That's DIRT racing at its best!

Man I miss that. There is not a lot of really good dirt track racing here compared to the upper midwest. I love the racing hate the bs involved. Too many hot headed idiots on the track that liked to think it was a crash um up time.

My local track is a high banked 1/4 mile, I don't go much anymore.

The track management does not put as much effort into track prep, rules enforcement, and maintaining a schedule, as I did preparing my car to run there. They also have problems with late rule changes, some even during the season.

What you and bmw88rider said. Use to to race dirt for 7 years. Built and wrenched car. Won races, had fun, nothing like running door to door with other good drivers adjusting to the changing track conditions. Got tired of the crashers and BS.

Then again, if you can climb To the podium through crashers and hot headed hillbillies, You'll do amazing in sanctioned racing where your safety is a primary concern.

We have four or five dirt tracks around here.

Racing cars are the NE modifieds and is pretty professional. Good racing.

They also have "street stocks" and small cars.

Occasional late models and sprints.

You can spend all weekend going to the races.

You'll need to log in to post.
