Fortunately, there’s an easy fix: CRC Throttle Body & Air-Intake Cleaner.

Be aware that if you do this to your NA/NB Miata, you will have idle problems. There's a sealant around the edge of the butterfly that is often mistaken for buildup. Any time someone calls in with a high idle, one of the first questions is "did you clean your throttle body?"

Sigh... got any pics of that? I cleaned mine, had a high idle, fixed it by replacing the air valve but the idle does occasionally behave oddly
No pics, it just looks like a bit of buildup around the edge of the butterfly. One way to fix it is to shoot a bit of spray paint into the throttle body from the front. You can clean off the face of the butterfly a bit if you want, but you do want a buildup at the edge. Let it dry before driving.

Thank you. This would be something I would try to do.
