This primarily interested me thanks to the Cooper AT3/ATP twins but it applies to others like the Wrangler Duratrac as well. Discount Tire Direct has a $100 coupon code currently ( CMOTORS315 ) which nets you $100 off any tire/wheel order over $400, you can stack that with the various rebates going on right now so I scored a set of 31" AT3's for my XJ for $290 shipped

http://stores.ebay.com/Discount-Tire-Direct/Current-Promotions-and-Forms.html

I strongly considered buying a pair of 33" duratracs with one $100 off code and then buying a second pair doing the same thing but the overall cheapness of the AT3's won me over

I've been planning on a set of 265/75-16 Discoverer AT3s for far too long, I may actually buy some now. Thanks!

I won't deal with them anymore. I bought new tires in november, and when they arrived they were dated middle of 2012. They emailed saying they would "make it right" that i got 2+ year old new tires, and when i replied i never heard back. I tried to givethem a second shot by scheduling to get tires put on at their local place. I accidentally ordered a 16 instead of 17 because i was researching downsizing rims, and as soon as I did called them to cancel. Cancelled install time came and got a call asking where I was, and when I told dude I had cancelled via phone 3 days prior i got a nasty "so you dont want new tires?" from him.

Just bought a set of hankook dynapros for the avalanche on ebay from tires-easy skeptically, for less than discount plus no tax versus discount because discount has stores in ohio, and they came next day with 3 month old date codes. I'll keep buying from them

Check the date on your new tires from discount i guess is what Im getting at, maybe i had an anomaly.

So is the discount code only good on the eBay store?

I haven't found a place to add a code on their main website, unless it's after you add your shipping info & CC#.

In reply to patgizz:

They dont its just common knowledge..or so I thought. A friend whos been a manager at a tire change place for years told me thats why they can't beat discount tire because they sell older tires.

2 to 3 years old "NOS" tires for a DD would not bother me, as long as they were properly stored. I know storage conditions would be hard to prove, but as long as they looked alright, and all in the set had similar date codes, I wouldn't worry about it.

That's how they got me last time, I paid full price because I couldn't see where to enter the damn code.

Four 6 ply 265/75R16 AT3s on their way to my house. Thanks for the heads up!

Annoying that I had to use Paypal to get the deal, I had to transfer funds to my account associated with Paypal. Would have been nice to have gotten the points on my CC, not only did I not get points on the CC, but apparently tires are excluded from eBay's bonus bucks, so no points there either. Decent deal regardless.

Other annoyance, I had to ship to a verified address, so I'll have to watch the tracking like a hawk, and take off work/work from home on the day they're delivered. Still saved almost $100 over Tread Depot, who had been the cheapest I'd found to date, and about $160 cheaper than I can get them local.

IIRC pretty much everything in ebay Motors including parts is excluded. Unfortunately most of the higher priced stuff I buy on ebay seems to all come from that category.

For an XJ, which 235/75-15 AT3s do i want? Will the cheapest ones do fine?

I was just going to go with the cheaper 4 plys, but the discount code got me to buy the pricier 6 ply. We've already had a nail in one of our new Sportwagon's tires, didn't have 3K miles on it and had to get a tire patched, there's a ton of construction on our commute. I'll be less worried about a rock or stob in the pasture puncturing a tire with 6 plys. Plus our XJ will do some towing.

I'm thinking about ordering from DTD 2 sets shortly. I'm not concerned about one set being old as it is a new line that launched last year. Then I only look there for brands TR doesn't carry.

Cooper CS-5 H rated in 205/60/16 for wife's car, Cooper zeon RS3-A in 205/60/16 for mine.

Although I do like how price includes shipping.

I might go through ebay with the $100 discount. My price for both sets from DTD totaled $720 with out any extras. I just wonder if with ebay I would need to place my orders separately so I get the $100 off on each set?

Is it just me, or does age seem to be killing tires a lot more recently than it used to? I don't have any actual data to back this up, but I feel like nowadays any tire over 7 years old is strongly suspect, and anything 10 years or older ought to be chewed up and made into playground mulch.

Contrast this with some older cars I've bought, some of which were riding on tires installed 15 or more years ago, that still seemed to be non-dry-rotted and usable.

I don't think it's just you. My XJ currently has some cheap Goodyears on it that my step FIL said he bought new and put on only 3 years ago.

They're already dry rotted to the point that i'm not comfortable with them, which is why i'm excited about this sale.

my nitto dura-grapplers that the hankooks are replacing on the avalanche still have a ton of tread, but cracks between the tread rows and they have a nov 2011 date.

and the 13 year old general grabbers off my dump truck still look and feel brand new having sat in the barn since i got rid of the truck 4 years ago. i would not hesitate to run them. new tires seem to be breaking down before the tread wears out for me even on stuff that gets all the miles.

I think for people like a lot of us here on the Forum, who might have several cars that only see limited use, this is more of an issue. I would bet money that the tire companies figured out that most people burn down the tread on a tire inside of 5 years, so why waste money on rubber compounds that'll last for longer than that? People are driving longer distances than ever, in general.

Once again, the enthusiasts find themselves in the minority, and getting screwed.
