You know, the one that makes it seem as if people have been hypnotized to worship an ideal, poking a little fun at Ferrari, Mercedes, Lexus and BMW.
"I have been told to desire red, Italian sports cars."
"I'm told it captures my essence."
At first I thought it would be another VW commercial, but Audi?
Aren't they just as much a target of their own ribbing? And does anyone really need an R10? And if so, wouldn't it look really good in red? Does the S6 capture one's "essence" better than an M3? I guess it depends on your personality.
"I've been told I need a new car with a premium badge every 3 to 5 years..." and I don't believe it for a minute.
I just don't get it. Who is this advert aimed at?
The moderately rich. Not quite into Ferrari territory, but more than wealthy enough for a BMW, Mercedes or Audi. They want a Ferrari but Audi is trying to make themselves look like a more reasonable alternative.
Remember Audi's ads when the Q7 first came out, always showing the Q7 in black, driving through a sea of beige/silver debadged Lexus RX's ?
I had to laugh, as a few weeks later there was a truckload of Q7's being unloaded at the local dealership... all in white.
Guy here at work just had his waterpump replaced on his Audi. One thousand four hundred dollars.
let see.. combine all the reliability of a VW with all the electronics of merc, and the performance of Lambo....
sounds like a recipe for disaster to me
but I do bet it would look drop dead sexy in red
I know a guy for whom cost is no object and who has owned many 6-figure cars - sometimes 3-4 at a time. He drives an Audi.
For me, cost IS an object. As such, I haven't owned an Audi in 27 years.
Fool me once...
Their performance on the race track is quite deceiving to the real world reliability of their everyday cars isn't it?

The same question could be asked about almost every other car ad out there today.
Well, I didn't intend this to turn into a "Flame Audi" thread. I've admired their cars over the years, and they've put out some beautiful and capable designs. Still, I wouldn't want to work on one.
I just find this particular ad to be...duplicitous in the extreme.
The answer to the "me too" humdrum of these other premium-labelled cars is...
...Our premium-labelled car. Can anyone not see through this?
Meanwhile in the world of GRM, the answer is clearly anything but a new car.

I have not sit in a car that was nicer, but the early 00's VAG cars have built a bad enough rep that I couldn't bring myself to buy one. I don't think they are for the moderately rich- I'm a mid-career white collar worker who could afford an A4 or so, but that's not my bag at the mo. I've become a Subaru fan and we still have an 02 wrx wagon as the family car. Subaru has gone a little soft with the new forester or we would have probably gone that route.

The ad is basically saying; all those other cars are for people who think they're better than everyone else; meanwhile, Audis are for people who actually ARE better than everyone else.

I've seen the R8 in person in red and silver, silver wins. I definitely want one, but I'd gladly take a used Elise instead in a few years.
This is another example of why not owning a TV isn't such a bad thing.

So it's aimed at me then?
I like the audi ad that makes fun of (Lexus?) automatic parking system (the one that parallel parks for morons who can't do it themselves), by having the audi do a 180-degree ebrake slide into a parallel spot.....
I'll get another Audi when I can afford to fix it.

I'll all for cutting off the cable or sattelite, but no TV at all? What do you play Forza (or GT) on?
In reply to friedgreencorrado:
I've got Forza and an original XBox, I used an X2VGA adapter to play games on my computer monitor. There for a while I had a TV tuner card but that hasn't been the case since 2006.
I'd like a TV but I have other irons in the financial fire and I don't want to make payments. Like that Saab thread, there's a daily driver change in my future. I want to try an LSL kit on my VFR (read: I want to try a standard handlebar on my Honda motorcycle in place of the clip-ons) and a custom seat to try to make it even more all day comfortable, or I'm selling the VFR by year end. I also need to save some money up this year since the last year hasn't exactly been a solid financial experience.
Wait, weren't we here to talk about cars?
I know an audi mech. He is constantly driving a new audi home. He needs to get them more time on the datalogger so he drives an drives. Last s5 he had would randomly shut off. Just driving down the road and bam, Took him 2 days to figure it out.

I prefer the one where the Lexus owner lets his car park itself while the Hyundai owner drives the Genesis to the Valet, to let someone else do it for him...
I used to have a 1970 100LS 4-speed. If I could find another rust-free example into which I could swap a current engine I'd do it in a heartbeat.

Dude, you know craigslist has TVs all day long for a song, right? I bought a 53" sony rear projection for $50. Its no flatscreen HDTV, but playing GT5p on it is plenty fun...

Don't lust over THOSE cars, instead, lust over THESE cars.
Simple replacement.
