I have never owned one and never driven one (only ridden in the back seat) but I thought this "some of everything" was where the P71 was supposed to shine.

Well, that's news to me. I know some autocross clubs (mine included), have an upper size limit and wouldn't let that on the course, though. That might just be because we have some smaller venues, though.

In stock class form, a Cherokee would be eliminated from running. What you are seeing is more of a Mod car and with the rules of that class, could/does run.
I think they have to get permission from the safety steward.

The first car that came to mind with your list was the Fox Mustang ( and I am a dodge guy) the car sits high enough for Rally X, good on tarmac and the drag racing thing is self explanatory, they are also common and cheap.

Other cars / trucks:

Early S-10 V8 4wd

First gen DSM ( might not be very reliable )

Jeep Comanche 4.0L five speed 4WD (kind of hard to find)

Dodge Omni turbo just cus

Depending on your definition of good, but I am going to have to say they would be one of the worse choices for handling at least in stock form.

It'll be pretty tough to have one car that is competitive in its class in each of those arenas. I think it is possible to make one that will be "not dead last" - and a lot of fun - in several diverse events.

Old guy that I am, I'm thinking Fox Mustang, air-cooled VW, etc. Or that little two-seater Mazda sells.

I'll let you guys know on the Talon front in a bit. It'll definitely see some time attack (if I pull the restrictor over 300awhp should be available, if not close to 400awhp with a switch of the tune), it'll definitely be rallying, and I wouldn't rule it out for a rally-x or two.

I can say this now, it wouldn't be competitive in auto-x simply due to the fact that the modifications that are legal for it in other forms of racing are not auto-x wise. In fact, I feel auto-x is the odd man out in this thought game as auto-x is s00per restrictive typically.

Edit- I should say though that with anti-lag auto-x would be hilarious in it.

Doing everything means doing nothing extremely well.

It is, however, quite fun.

First gen Impreza. Our '95 wagon did well in LeMons/Chump and rallycross for about $500 INCLUDING safety after selling some non-essentials. For another grand you could easily have a turbo engine to make it fun in the drags, and for another $500 it'd be a real looker. I'd start with a coupe or sedan, but we used the wagon because a good deal came our way. They're also dead nuts reliable.

You should probably clarify if you're willing to swap engines/suspensions as a jack of all trades...obviously hard to optimize it to be great on tarmac AND rally with the same parts, but it's easy to swap springs and sway bars to get pretty close.

I could see a Civic, DSM, Neon, etc. doing well, but Subie has a good combination of value and performance IMO. DSMs are potent performers, but sure seem unreliable when they're abused (unlike Subies, in my experience).

Ford Focus?? SVT model maybe? Fairly cheap for parts if you get a more basic model.

FB or FC RX7, not as cheap as others but you will be in the running.

i had a pie in the sky idea to get one car and try to do the challenge and maybe BABE and some other events just to see how well i can do. Maybe do some big name stuff.

Bottom line:

Just to see what a little guy can do out there and truly have some down and dirty GRM fun
