Would the neck fit through the 8" x 17" ski passthrough in the Jetta's rear seat? That would prevent having to cram someone in:
edit the Jetta's trunk is only 46.5" deep, so that probably won't work if it's a 4/4.

If not a van, then I was going to suggest XC70, but I really am not sure how much people space would be left with a bass in there. Take bass with you to some dealers. Try before you buy. Good luck.

Buy a 2nd Bass...keep one at school, one at home. Problem solved.
It might fit in a Mazda6 wagon. While I never did a direct comparison, my Mazda6 wagon either has a bigger volume, or a more usable volume than the Volvo 850 and '04 V70 I had. Unfortunately Mazda6 wagons are getting hard to find. If only Mazda would bring that back to this country. And if not the manual 6 wagon then bring back the manual 5.
