All the ones I have seen are past the 25 year import restriction so I was wondering if they were ever sold new in the US more recently?

I could do with an M-type car with a slushbox and that seems to be Alpina's market...

I've seen a couple z8 Alpina's... that's all

edit: from the Z8 wiki:

wikipedia said: Only 555 of these Alpinas were built, 450 of which were exported to the U.S. market and only eight to the UK.[4] In the United States, this special edition of the Z8 was sold directly through BMW dealerships, marking a first for Alpina, whose cars had never been sold through retail channels in the U.S.

I think the B7 is the first official import - although there may have been some e21s.

I know that there are a couple of 2002s, e21s and e30s but I had hoped that there were some e36s/e46s available, too. Oh well.

It shouldn't be too hard to find an M-car with a TC automatic.

You can buy Alpinas thru BMWUSA dealers these days. I park near an Imperial Blue B7 sedan at work.

Isn't that the SMG that one is supposed to avoid, at least with an E36?

They didn't exactly sell a boatload of automatic E36 M3s in Europe so I'm not really up to speed with what is/was available.

I was after something slightly cheaper than new from a dealer, though...

And something based on the 3 or 5 series...
