I liked the 370Z when it came out 13 years ago. 13 years! Back then, the Mustang GT still only had the 300ish hp 4.6 mod motor. Withered on the vine. It's like if they kept making the 300ZX until 2003, but had never turbocharged it.

As an aside, right now we are in the peak of junkyard availability of VQ35 engines. There are no less than a dozen RWD VQ vehicles at my local PAP at any given time. Just a matter of time before we cycle into VQ37's at junkyards, if you're into that sort of thing.

It was $2k more than a Miata or BRZ.  It makes a buttload more power than both, and fits a ton more tire than both.  I feel like it does a good job of splitting the difference between small/nimble and 'muscle car'.

Good power, fits lots of tire, double wishbones, has a diff, good aftermarket support, small exterior dimensions (2 feet shorter than a pony).  I don't get the hate.  Used they seem to have a lot of bang for the buck.

I think the base model is diff free. I seem to recall a CandD review talking about lots of inside wheel spin with TCS turned off.

Be willing to pay for it. GRM'ers typically expect pristine, low mileage stock cars for less than what ratty ones sell for.

While there is a grain of truth in that, the counterpoint is that people with ratty ones expect to get pristine-example money.

Once people are willing to stop overpaying for things, the prices come down.

Much like you're already starting to see a dramatic cooling off of the housing market. It seems people finally went, "WHOA, wait a second. This is stupid. Let's a wait a bit."

The biggest problem I always saw with the 350/370 is that they are really good at looking fast and really bad at being fast.   Lots more options out there for similar money and better performance.

All of those are also true of a C5 Z06, a base C6.

The cheapest 370z in my hood is $24,000, an automatic, and missing the cats.  That money buys you an extremely nice C5 Z06, which murders the 370z in every regard.

Cars "we like" include the Crown Victorias and Ford Mavericks (26 page thread so far?). IMO the 370Z should easily be in the top 10 for modern cars.

The Maverick solves a lot of DD problems in one slick package. Panthers are cheap (or were, idk the market today)

The Z is a sports car so it doesn't solve any problems and isn't terribly cheap, but as a sports car it has to compete with Miatas and Toyobarus which are both lighter, old Boxsters with better feel, or pony cars that are a lot faster. It doesn't tick the right boxes for a lot of people.

I was talking about new prices.

Another caveat to my, be willing to pay, is be willing to travel or have a car shipped.

'88 325 - had shipped from Florida.
'91 318 - Flew to NJ and drove back to OK
'09 V8 4Runner - Flew to Austin and drove back
'06 Miata - drove to Paris, TX and drove back
'13 135i - drove the BRZ to Indianapolis, traded-ed it in and drove back. We did that in 1.5 days.
'06 Miata - worked out a deal to have it delivered from Kentucky.

I realize it's not as convenient, but if you're looking for something specific and/or want to find deals, that's what you have to be willing to do. When I'm looking for something specific, I start with a 300 mile radius and go farther from there.

You're far more brave than I. I refuse to make an offer on something I haven't seen in person, unless I'm paying scrap value. It's easy enough to get burned on something local that you've seen with your own eyes and test driven.

That's kind of my frustration with threads like this one. Sports cars solve the most pressing problem - FUN. Sports cars are the thing that most embodies our shared interest on this forum, but there's often a ton of negativity about legitimately good ones. Whether it's; 1. A fun street car. 2. A street car used for autoX/lapping. 3. A dedicated race car. 4. A future crap can racer - cars like this need to exist and be enjoyed. A Maverick can certainly haul more boxes of Depends from Costco, but is that really what this forum is all about? I'm unfortunately no longer able to do use case #2 or #4, but I will be damned if I'm going to have more interest in an appliance than a legitimately good sports car. The 370Z is a solid choice, just like the other options you mentioned. If I was doing #2, a 370Z would be in my garage right now.

'87 RX-7 Turbo II - 2 hours. Drove first, bought later. Great price.

'06 RX-8 - 2 hours. Put down a deposit, subject to test drive later, drove back later. 3 years old, 14k miles, <1/3 cost of new!

'94 Miata - Bought 7 hours away, sight unseen, shipped. Good price/condition for price/bought to fit rulebook.

'17 Camaro SS - 7 hours drive, sight unseen, travelled to get it by train, bunch of extra legwork/hassle. Great deal at the time, didn't work out well, but no way of knowing what the future would hold.

'16 FiST - Fly and drive, 11 hours away. Good deal, great condition/add ons, low miles. Got a fun vacation out of it too.

I must have missed all the negativity. This board spills countless gallons of digital ink about fun cars. A single thread about a daily driver doesn't erase that.
Also, if you read the thread you'll find very little hate. Mostly indifference, but that's a far cry from hate.

I've never driven one, but I think they're cool. I like the shape. I've heard them with a aftermarket exhaust that I liked the sound of, that came in just a little under obnoxious. They may not be as fast as some of the other options listed above, but i bet they are still faster than I'm willing to drive on the road. But all that being said, if i was in the market for a fun car for the road I'd probably go with a mustang or bmw 3 series, because back seat for the kids.

I like them and think they are good cars, their design is long in the tooth. I think VQ exhaust only sounds good stock.

The first one was the only real risk.

The 2nd one was a guy who is a personal friend who owns a shop out, GutenParts.

Middle 3 were at dealers.

Last one was a GRM'er.

Live a little ;)
