Haha I think I might be exactly the opposite. At 30k sale price someone lost quite a bit of dough on this I would think.
The interior reminds me of the original concept car, which is a very good thing. but the exterior is just...weird.
Honestly, can some one buy this and just build another road legal version on the concept car?
We need more of this in the world.
I've always disliked the styling of early Boxters forward of the front axle, but after looking at "the dean", turns out Porsche could've done a lot worse.
For some reason, I was thinking more along the lines of Dean Wormer than James Dean until the fourth or fifth picture when I realized this was in some way supposed to resemble a 550 Spyder. I would pay maybe 50% of what I'd pay for an unmolested Boxter. Since I don't like them, that rounds to about $0.

I was gonna say is looks like Isle 3 at Autozone, so pretty much what you said.
I think that's an excellent demonstration of just how hard it is to customize a car and have it look good.
This is a beautiful local ride. Mark Schlocter had a ridiculous amount of time and money in this. My buddy Kevin has it a few months ago as a loaner for the weekend. Love the random use of Mercedes e class headlights.
There are things I don't like about it but I certainly don't dislike it. It's miles better than all of the 57 Belair or Vette kits for the C6 cars.
A little tweaking to my tastes and I'd rock it. The taillight covers would be in the bin before the exhaust stopped pinging while cooling and I'd be shopping for a less garish set of seats right away. I could focus on the little details later
That one's been kicked around on the 986Forum a bit. I like bits of it, but the whole of it is a turn-off.
On the other hand, 914racer's prototype build is awesome inside and out. I don't think he's posted it on GRM, so here's some info:
I didn't hate it in the first shot. Once I went into the gallery it all went pear shaped... no no no.... Interior is great. But man the front is bad

that actually makes the awful broken egg porsche headlights look good
Do the oem consoles really look that cheap or was it lifted from a dodge neon? All the leather in the world can't hide that terrible silver plastic...
That's a very punchable face, but put a different front end on it and change a few - ok maybe more than a few - other details and I could live with it.
Someone obviously likes it 29000 times more than I do.
No hate, but it doesn't look like a finished project.
If that had been the Porsche in Cars, Lightening McQueen would've chosen to share a garage with Nater.
A boxer shot with the aftermarket Porsche parts catalog cannon while on a drunken eBay shopping spree.
