Yes, that is essentially the situation.  Even years ago, one of the major sites was Hollywood park, which has been gone for many years and is now SoFi stadium. The displace threshold at Camarillo airport was a spot (a bit restrictive, but still something), and was used a few times on Roadkill and others show.  That has been gone a few a few years (they are building fancy hangers for business jets).

Irvine was an option years ago (but quite a drive), but that has been gone many years, I think it's a mall or something.  As noted California Speedway is a question and is still a good drive from some parts of LA.

So yes, massive car culture, massive population Los Angeles (especially northern Los Angeles area), essentially has no AutoX sites.  Orange county does apparently have some occasionally, but that is really only practical for central or southern LA.

For the longest time we in the central Kentucky area used "The Pad".  A capped municipal landfill with porta potties, no shade, a dome-like crown to the whole space and about 7 acres.

Recently we've been using the Stockyards more.   An awkward triangular shape that means one hard 180 degree turn around and really challenging asphalt that has terrible bumps when going in certain directions.  But a glorious bathroom and sometimes even a restaurant is available.

And once a year the University of Kentucky lets up use a lot near the football stadium.   Huge site but no facilities and a lot of work to make happen.

So variety helps but nothing is perfect.   My powerball goal would be to buy 100 acres and pave about 50 of them.

Two more opportunities this year to visit one of my favorite local sites, Orlando’s Orange County Convention Center: SCCA is there on Saturday, December 2, with the Martin Sports Car Club running there on Saturday, December 9.
