The Jags didn't work out so the hunt started again.
There is a local PD that has a couple of Chargers on GovDeals at about $2k. 368 hp, 392 tq.
Now tell me the bad news.

A local city PD ( small dept - Molena, GA) has a Charger that is in the shop for a $1400 fix. Seems there is a plastic part in the trans that overheats when the vehicle sits, running, for long periods of time. Trans has to come out to be fixed. Your results may vary but you may want to ask if the part in the trans has been repaired.
$2k for a reasonably recent American RWD V8 car? Unless it's a total basket case, I don't see how you can lose.
dammit, now I've been on govdeals all evening....
Apparently Washington DC police is selling a crapload of 2014 Explorers, most with bids under $2k
More interesting was the "Lot of 59 boxes of decorative candles (12 per box)" currently going for $8
Here's another angle- they're used police cars. Every human bodily function has happened in them at some point, in combinations and quantities you might not think possible, so plan on replacing or at least completely removing and cleaning the interior. The front seating area tends to be better, but still plan for lots of old dried food and drink. Old cop car smell is really its' own category.
That said, they are cool, and if any of the lights and sirens are still present they sell for a decent price on eBay.

If being bought for a family car to tote around small children, the upside is they have an interior built to take precisely that, and it has already happened so you won't cry when it happens with your kids.
Front suspension wear is something to check for from what I've heard, but the comments I've heard about it don't make it sound like a deal breaker.

you just described my mini van... I've had to throw out kid seats due to poop-splosions...
I bought a 13 Dodge Charger Pursuit a couple years ago and sold it in May. The car had 109k. It was a former Ohio Highway Patrol car. The car was great and had very few issues but I also went to Chicago to buy it where there are 3 big companies selling a ton of .Gov vehicles so a lot to choose from. My car needed brakes since it had a cracked rotor and well worn pads all around. Other than that it needed nothing to run and drive nicely anywhere anytime. I cleaned it well and found no issues of human bodily fluids, drugs or anything not found in a regular used car.
Issues to look out for :
Suspension noise particularly clunks from the front end. Not easy to diagnose and there are quite a few things that it can be.
Lifter tick/Cam lobe worn out with later displacement on demand. Lots of idling kills these cams and lifters.
Wear on interior parts.
Holes in body and particularly the roof.
Electrical issues depending on how the police equipment was installed and/or removed. This can lead to hard to track down glitches, drain, and shorts.
Depending on the year the stability control is not defeatable with a simple button. On my 13 an easy fix that kept traction control and ABS but no stability control was to take the yaw sensor located under the console on 2 studs on the trans tunnel and turn it 90 degrees. You can turn off TC fully and no stability control intrusion which is significant. The nice thing is that it is easily corrected by just putting the sensor back on the studs and cycling the key.
Overall they can be quite a bargain and fun or can be a constant pain with problems popping up all the time. Condition is king more than location, mileage, or agency it came from.
I don't see how you could go wrong with one of those: Hemi, Big Brakes, scares potheads. Big cool factor if it has the black steelies with the chrome dog dishes.
Edit: If it had trunk mounted antennae make sure there are no electrical gremlins and plug the holes ASAP. The battery is in the trunk along with one of the fuse panels. I bought a set of wheels from a guy that had an 09 or 10 Police Charger and had some issues because of that.
Its the Blues Mobile. Cop engine. Cop tires. Cop suspension. Just get the band back together why don't cha?
I tossed a bid on it. The auction doesn't end til Sunday. We will see what happens.
The car in question.

The “out the diaper, straight up the back ass-plosion” struggle is real.

Doubly true when you don't realize it before you pick them up and pat them on the butt.

That stripe is kinda tough.

If I end up buying it, I'll probably leave the stripe. Possibly even paint the area below the stripe a gray or something. I need to park it in the yard and stare at it a while.
