Slower, smaller inside and uglier than a legacy gt wagon.

Survey says? Not so fast my friend - http://www.insideline.com/subaru/legacy/2005/comparison-test-2005-dodge-magnum-rt-vs-subaru-legacy-gt.html#article_pagination_top_0
Ugly? Whatever you say on that one...
If they only would have made them with a manual trams... I hated the crap auto and will never buy a dodge auto again
About that Phantom Stumble... I have a 2005 Dodge Magnum R/T, and it does it every time. I know it has to do with the transmission, and that it does it al low speeds like when it shifts from 2nd to 1st shift. Have you had it looked at? I would be interested if you had it repaired. It does it all the time on mine and it is an automatic transmission too. Please let me know via this blog if you have. Thanks.

Did they offer the Magnum with anything besides an automatic? I thought there were no manual transmissions to be had in the LX platform outside of V8 Challengers.

It's a Mercedes auto... although I'm not sure if that's a good thing or not. First RWD automatic transmission in a Chrysler product that can't trace its design back to the Torqueflites.
Try to get one without the factory sunroof. A friend has an '05 AWD RT. The drain pan around the sunroof leaks. When she had a shop look at it, the sunroof was only available as an assembly. An expensive one at that. For now the sunroof is sealed with some vinyl tape. It'a a black car so it isn't too obvious.
The AWD 5.7 seems to top out at 16 MPG. I'm looking into pulling the front driveshaft to see if it helps.
More stuff that i want to respond to than i have actual typing motivation for.
I have a 2.7L magnum and think it's a great car.
Ours has no suspension issues @110k+
I dont think the rear seat is claustrophobic at all, and im 6'0.
I DO think the interior has an overall dark feeling, probably reinforced by dark colors, but i HATE the tan/beige interiors on these cars, which is one of the reasons i went for the 2.7L!
Visibility out the back is not great. You can easily learn to live with it, but it is not 'airy feeling'. The car feels like you are in a bunker, but in a safe way, whereas a new camaro or mustang feels like a bunker in a claustrophobic way.
Saying the interior feels cheap compared to an 05 mustang made me LOL! Holy crap, i dont think i can fix the way of thinking that led to that one... I'll just have to wait until parts start falling off your door panel when you open the door.
The mercedes auto is reliable and strong. It's not that great to drive, though. It does not feel crisp and i find the manual mode to be annoyingly unresponsive. But it's basically the same transmission they use in Sprinters that get loaded down to 10k+ constantly with turbo diesel torque and still do ok.
I think a hemi magnum is a good car, but in spite of the ways it is cool it's still boring in a lot of ways if you leave it stock. I definitely think the first thing you do to make you like it more is the right exhaust. I recently noticed that Koni sells their Street line for these cars for under $400 for all 4, so that would probably be a cheap way to make the car feel better as well.

LoL......I even thought the 05+ GT interior was better quality than the SRT8 300c I nearly bought.
Maggies look great once you change their front ends to either the 300 or charger, and otherwise should be close to the same as the rest of the LX cars. I am not for sure, but I have heard rumors about some SRT-8 maggies having 6sp manuals......that'd be a real oddball though.
My dad bought me a new 08 GT when I graduated (graduated in 08) and I traded my Mustang for his 05 Magnum. I haven't regretted the decision a single day. Partly because I'm building a 302 Miata... but mostly because I love the car. Lets get past the motor and the interior. I like that I can seat 5 people, and all their stuff, and have plenty of room left over. I have several 6ft + friends and they feel very comfy in the car. That, and you're bad and should feel bad if you don't like the car. That is all.

The 5 speed in the Magnums is a Mercedes trans. It amazes me how everyone assumes a Chrysler product has inherent trans problems.

Really... huh, didn't know that, lol. I've never had problems with mine. But one day, when I win the lotto, I want to gut a challenger and put the drive train in the magnum. Biggest mistake dodge has made, except for stop making the magnums, was to never offer it as a manual. SO fun
In reply to Baylis: are we positive there never was a manual offered? There are a few srt chargers out there with 3 pedals.
In reply to yamaha:
I think the parking brake is a pedal in them.
Other than the Challenger, all the LX manuals are conversions, not factory. Keisler offered a T56 kit for the LX shortly after the Charger came out. Other conversions have been done sourcing parts from the Challenger.

Strange.....the few I've seen appeared stock, just means someone was really good.
Yea, I asked the dealership when they were planning on selling them with a manual and they told me "Maybe in the future". Then they didn't make them, lol
