Though in the last picture, it looks like it's got a waterproof bed. Interesting. The surfer dude is standing on the roof. Whatever that is in the bed though, looks dry.

I bet it didn't get stuck. I bet it was sitting there for photo's and the tide came in and a bunch of buggar-eating morons didn't know what to do. I read a forum thread about a guy with a VERY well build Jeep TJ. He was crossing a river in Alaska. If floated down the river and had to be left while a recovery vehicle was rounded up. It didn't take long for the water to wash sand out from under said Jeep, sinking it. The vehicle below is the Jeep in quesiton, I think it's on 36" tires.
No vehicle is stoopid-proof

doc, i used to like you.

I'm not saying I'm mourning it's passing, but it's a heckuva truck. It's more capable than any Power Wagon of the past.
Apparently it's not THAT capable. It got stuck in the sand.

Dang nabit, did you have to post that! It's dangerously near by, and just as dangerously affordable!
Wow, I've not come across this on this forum before. When Jeep came out with the YJ the unwashed whined because it wasn't a CJ. It had square headlights for crying out loud! Then there was the TJ, it had crooked springs. It had to suck! Now I'm seeing this!? So, the new power wagon is different than a truck from the 40's? I hope so. I love the old power wagon and wouldn't buy a new one because I'm cheap/poor. But I applaud them for building it for the same reason I applaud Ford for building the Raptor.
In fact, I saw a video here of a Raptor that jumped a small continent. It broke when it landed. That was the fault of the driver, not the truck. Now we have a truck that was left in the ocean by some marketing morons but it's the trucks fault?
It does look pretty awful in those pictures, but that's nothing that can't be fixed. Getting sunk in saltwater is another thing altogether.
Thank you GRM for bringing this to my attention. As I work for Ford I can now e-mail a friend who is a power train manager on these trucks over a Fiat and offer a real truck to help them get it out. Today is a good day
The problem is that it has a "Hemi" that doesn't have hemispherical combustion chambers and not a Cummins. Why buy a Dodge truck if it doesn't have a Cummins, especially a 3/4 ton?
If the text is correct (I have no reason to believe it is) they had plenty of time to get a tow truck there. Dummies.
Sorry, I don't get the hate for this truck, and I'm not a Dodge guy...I've never owned anything Mopar/Chryco etc. So it's got ugly stickers. This new truck is just as much of a "Powerwagon" as the older ones. It's more capable, it's more functional, it's more powerful, it's more comfortable, it's even more practical. Who cares if the HEMI isn't a real HEMI? Who cares that it's not a Cummins? The performance is there who cares what they call it? Are the old trucks in the pictures that everyone drools over Cummins powered? I just don't get all the cynical comments. The new Powerwagon is way more than a sticker package.
Oh yeah, right, I forgot. The new Z28 sucks too because it's too heavy and doesn't have a radio. Jeez...

Just how much cable does a tow truck carry? That thing is ~3ft+ under water at that point. They are probably hundreds of hundreds of feet from dry land.
To me it sounds like the primary thing that happened was they got the truck stuck in sand. That is not exactly hard to do. Anyone that has not driven on sand a lot (myself included) could get a truck stuck in sand if they werent careful. This is an underprepared crew making a mistake that cost a truck. Sure, that sucks. But i dont see them or the truck being any worse than anyone else who gets their truck stuck in sand around the shoreline. It happens all the time.

It doesn't have the Cummins because the factory front-mounted winch occupies the same space the intercooler would otherwise go.
I'd buy it because it has lockers front and rear, 37s, electronically disconnect-able sway bars, and AWESOME STICKERS.
I own a Dodge 2500. It's the package the engine comes in If I wanted a non-hemi "Hemi" (tm), I'd get a Challenger.
The hate's a bit overblown (though it is ugly, but hey, it's not the first). However, a hemi that is not technically a hemi is when marketing wins and we all get slightly dumber as a result.
In reply to Keith Tanner:
at least when you buy a 3/4 ton or 1 ton from dodge you get solid front axle, GM likes to think that you want IFS for some reason in that application...
Also I tried to take my suburban on the beach due to miscommunication, it got stuck real good, had to get pulled out with a commanche...
This stupid person got stuck due to stupidity.

Interesting... so it makes the same power as a Tundra.

Just one more reason for me to not like it.

Wait..... so it had a winch and they STILL couldn't get it pulled out?
