This was when I was about 12, so it was all done by a mechanic. I have heard of many other issues with the 86-87 heads being bad though, so idk. I did own a shelby charger for a while, and it was very unreliable, but mostly due to poor quality replacement parts, and the previously mentioned disintegrating wiring. It was fun other than that, but if i ever owned another turbo dodge it would have a common block and all the 89+ electronics, which I think would address all the things I don't like about them.

I've got a 198? GLH (bits of different years and parts, like the aformentioned 555 trans). It was great in stock and modded as a DD. It sucks as a DD now but that's what more mods, less sound deadening and stiffer bushings will get you. But walking away from a Mustand or Camaro (and 944 turbo's and vettes) is worth it.

" ...for a few hundred more, an Omni GLH Turbo, which has all of that plus a turbocharger. GLH, by the way, stands for Goes Like Hell. [...] Add big fat racing tires and alloy wheels and you have yourself a poor man's Porsche, the most lethal weapon ever developed for the Boston traffic wars."

"Sure, spend three times as much and you could get a car that goes a little faster, but who is seriously going to thrash a vehicle that costs that much? Who'll risk denting it? But if it's an Omni, who cares?"

You'd be lucky to find an omni that still has most of its door handles, let alone worry about dents, at this point.

Wow didn't realize that many T-Mers were over here. If you aren't worried about weight get a 89-90 turbo van, the looks you'll get as you pass are worth it.

This isn't related to the GLHS per se, but the Omni in general. I've sworn them off forever...

When I was in high school, my parents made me take one of those AAA driving courses, so they could get their insurance rates lower. The school had Omni's as their teaching cars...complete with AAA badging everywhere...and the extra set of gas/brake pedals on the passenger side.

We decided to play a joke on our instructor. One night, during a break in classroom time, we decided to pick up the back of the car and turn it sideways, so it was wedged up against the property's fence. I forgot just how far those huge rear bumpers stick out and when we went to put the car down...WHACK!!! Came down square on my left knee. Amazingly, no broken bones, but I spent my senior prom on crutches and couldn't move my lower leg for about 2 weeks.

I have a 1984 Charger (a two door Omni) with no dents and worki.g orginal door handles. Windows are another matter.

My drivers ed had then-new Dodge 600s without dual control. At the tine the Mets were playing many Thursday afternoon games (when our road intruction took place). Our instructor turned up the game, pulled down his cap and told us to drive.

i REALLY like some of the earliest 2-dr L's, got pics of the 84?

The only L-bodies i could see myself picking up are CHEAP glhs's, some rampages (ive technically owned 5, briefly), and some of the early early 2-drs with cool option packages.

How about I give you the $800 for the red Shelby Dak and then you'll have the cash and space for that van?

Nope. Have the cash, need the space, but I have post Challenge plans for the Dak.

That's good, I really don't need another project.

There's got to be some room somewhere up there in the mountains for a turbo minvan.

I don't think there is enough room in my marriage for one. Well, maybe if I sell the RX7

Other than that it is rust free (never had rust), has new paint and runs well, nothing. Bought it in 2006 for $1000 and the only thing it needed was paint, a radio and a tune up.

I just found this 1993 picture of my '87 GLHS, which I bought from the original owner in 2007. Pretty cool...

That, my friend, does not convey the same level of enthusiasm as you displayed regarding a TURBO MINIVAN!!

Sell it and get a van!!

Another vote for the turbo minivan. I'd rather have one of those than a RX7. Is there something wrong with me?
