I installed a kitchen yesterday and a dog just like that kept me company for the whole day. Nice dog.

We just spent a week at the beach. Took the dog and drove the truck so we could take the sailboat. Headed down I'm not sure who was happier to be riding in the truck with the windows down - The dog or my wife:
The extended cab has fixed side windows, much to Cooper's dismay, but he's figuring out the back window isn't a bad alternative:
Woody I would guess that is a Goldendoodle! We have one about the same color. Very smart and fun loving dogs and would like to be on the go all the time. Ours has never met a person or animal she didn't like!

Does anyone have any tips for transporting a 100lb dog, wife and track gear for a weekend in a single cab?
I really dont want to sell my old truck just to get a extended or crew cab.
Get a cap that has a sliding window so the dog's head can stick into the cab (assuming you have a sliding window already on your truck). Sliding windows on the side of the cab too.

This is probably your best bet. Be aware though that it's going to be godawful hot inside that cap if you're in the south in the summer.
Love this thread. The only thing I hate about my Extended Cab is the fixed windows. That is why my Golden rides up front.
I like the back window of the 4runner though :D
For some reason there's a connection between dogs and trucks (lab/pitbull mix)

Well our Goldendoodle is a little over 3 years old now and still has a lot of energy and likes to run in big circles anytime she can get outdoors. Loves swimming, riding in cars and boats or anything just to be with us. She also has quite the personality that keeps me laughing at what she is going to do next. Shes a quick learner and now retrives the newspaper off the lawn just like a lab we used to have.
She loves the truck. She doesn't want to get out when we get home!

Dogs, as children, should be safely secured either by harness or in crates (and not the wire style either). A dogs head should never be sticking out a car. Open the window enough for them to breath the air. And never in the front seat. Ever see what an airbag can do to a dog? Not to mention the distraction they present when driving. I don't mean to be a wet blanket, but I teach DE and I have dogs. I would rather inconvenience them for a short while than make the ride riskier for all.
We used to have a 100 lb Black Lab-Chesapeake Bay retriever mix that would ride with my wife in her Sunfire. He'd put his back legs on the back seat, his front paws on the console, and stick his head out the sunroof. People would take pictures all the time.

One time on the freeway I saw a girl driving an old VW bug convertable. She had a large dog that - I'm not making this up - had his back legs on the seat backs and his front feet on the top edge of the windshield. He was having the time of his life, barking like crazy. Very precarious but he was "king of the world" right then.

When the ex and I first got together we had a boxer who rode in the Corolla the same way. Silly because boxers have such loose skin, on the highway he looked like the Predator with his lips blown back. Hard to drive laughing so hard 
Don't have any of the pictures of it accessible, but our boxer-pit mix usually spends the trips to and from WI to visit SWMBO's family mostly lying on the center console between us with his back legs on the back seat of our small SUV. He'll often try and rest his head on my right wrist (when I'm driving), or stand up a bit and nestle his head onto my right shoulder with his snout behind my neck.
I'd ridiculously adorable, and I know trying to convince SWMBO to secure him in the back seat with a harness would NEVER fly- but it does make me VERY paranoid on those trips that something will happen and I'll have to panic stop and he'll go flying into/through the windshield- 85lbs of dog going 70 mph in a vehicle suddenly going half that speed would NOT be fun...

We saw this sweet Chevy Cameo pickup after showing her in an obedience demo at a county fair, and she wanted a pic in front of it. 
The only pic I have of her in my truck is lost somewhere. She had to ride in the back of the truck on the way home from a hike because she had the brilliant idea of rolling around in a dead fish carcass that a bird stashed in the middle of a field. 
Well, this thread certainly has gone to the dogs....
