and honestly a vinyl wrap of that quality costs about as much as paint if not more.
or you could paint it with single stage poly boat paint with a roll on brush for around $59 in materials...

The BMW guy wrote that he had $120 in materials and applied it himself.
As I understand it, this job was $1,500 for materials and labor.

Yeah, but the only problem with that $1500 job is, no matter how you wrap it, it's still a Nissan Cube.
"applied it himself" is the key there. Correct the materials arent that bad (although for only $120 he used some low grade stuff that will fade in a year or 2) but the skill to apply it doesnt come cheap and its not something you want to try DIY on your own unless you like wasting material as you learn. You will get wrinkles, bubbles and flaws. If you can live with them cool If you want something that looks good plan on a few trys. Vinyl is a fun medium but it takes developing a feel for it, especially in a full wrap.

It is still ugly on a Ford Escape as well.
I wrapped my P71 and my E30, both matte black. There were some parts I really struggled with, like the bumpers, but for the most part it was fun and didn't take too long to get the hang of it.
But, yeah, I dropped $250 on a roll that I figured would just be practice. It ended up ok, though. Plus there is no mess, overspray, smell, or yucky cleanup like there is with paint. I rustoleum-rollered my old CRX and I would do another vinyl wrap again over another roller paint again.
dyintorace, I am not calling you out, as the subsequent pics certainly look real enough, but heres something about the lighting in that first pic that makes it look like a photoshop.
If you are talking about the odd reflection at the cross above the amberlamps (somebody call da amberlamps) I think it is the quality of vinyl more than a photochop.

Point proven - Yes, your photoshop skills are exceptional. I am impressed.
Oh, btw, welcome to the GRM board, glad you could join.
I do, we do and I think that 1621 is now poking you with electrons.
Did your friend mention what manufacturer of vinyl was used?
I have priced from a couple different suppliers for similar grade in matte tan and got quotes from $150.00 to $450.00 for materials...
