Really wasn't tailgating.

The BMW driver is perpetuating the old joke.

Whats the difference between a BMW and a porcupine?

Porcupine has the pricks on the out side.

From the comments:

"So what is the causal relationship between BMW ownership and asshattery, anyway? Do asshats buy BMWs or does BMW ownership eventually turn normal people into asshats? And why does the asshat effect seem to diminish with the age of the car? Is there some sort of outgassing effect from the interior plastics that dissipates over time? Somebody needs to commission a study"

Yeah, I'm admittedly confused by that vid.

The MS3 wasn't tailgating in the least. The bimmer owner raged HARD over what seemed like just about nothing. Then, when he raged, he just shouted a bit... who gets angry enough to stop in the middle of a twisty 2-lane and get out of their car, but doesn't throw down with the fisticuffs?

I heard on a few sites that it was staged to show how the MS3 can keep up with a 335i

in movies maybe... LOL

If he didn't like the Mazda "s@#%box" on his tail, how would he react if it were the Wartburg ?

Hmmm, bimmer guy must not get out much. Didn't see any tailgating. And you definitely don't step out unless you're ready to back it up. I don't think I wouldve had that calm of a reaction to somebody approaching waving and cursing

In reply to pete240z:

on the other end, i don't think i would react that politely if someone were to try the same crap with me. given the body language, tone of voice and what was said, i'd probably started backing to keep the guy at a safe distance until an opening presented itself to either a) make an exit or b) turn the guy into roadkill and make an exit.

an MS3 will do a killer reverse donut that would do wonders for discouraging someone from "kicking my ass in my $#!tbox" no thanks, take your jorts back to the car and leave, pal

Let's play automotive stereotype, shall we?

Miata = Hairdresser

Corvette = Mullet with money

Legacy = Lesbian

Volvo = Car for people who hate cars

Hybrid = Volvo x 2

and not to forget -

BMW = Dickwad

Not that the stereotypes don't often hold true, mind you

I so wanted to build a rally style Legacy, but not after perusing kreb's list.

Jeez, what a tool. As the owner of two BMWs, I can only hope that that knucklehead doesn't reflect badly on the rest of...oh, too late.

I've met way too many car owners who have more money than sense. It comes out in a variety of forms, but there seem to be an awful lot of people out there who think they can buy respect, driving talent, or larger male attachments (or any combination of the above). Thankfully, this is sometimes proven in comical ways.

Hmm, so what does it mean when I alternate between driving a Miata and a BMW to work? And when you combine the Corvette with the Miata?

About the video - remember that a wide angle lens will make cars look further apart than they really are. I counted about a 1 second distance between the cars. On the street at a reasonable pace, that's a bit closer than I'd prefer to have a random stranger following me. About half, really. On the track, I don't mind getting close to other drivers once I have an idea of their ability. On the street, not so much.

Of course, my solution is to first flash the brake lights, then, if the following driver closes up again, just slow down. Eventually they'll lose interest and leave. I guess that makes me an asshat BMW owner, but I do it in the Miata too.

Forgot:

Audi = Male chicken

Hummer = Afraid of driving near dirt

F Body = possible meth addiction (unless they are GRM board members of course)

Mustang = Hairdresser with possible meth addiction.

Clearly, all mister hissy fit had to do was to slow down, and if that didn't work, give a point-by. But driving fast in front of another enthusiast in a fast car is like blood to a shark. You're a maroon if you're surprised when they chase you.

My point is that practically every car has an associated stereotype. If you love the car, you just have to live with those who polute your car's automotive gene pool.

The BMW owner is clearly an idiot, however, the driver of the Mazda clearly can't take a hint. The camera makes a few things hard to judge: the distance between the cars, and the speed at which they're going. But I think it is pretty obvious the BMW slowed down and accelerated away in an effort to give some breathing room between the two cars.

So i owned a BMW and now own a MS3 so what does that make me? I was wondering when this would hit here....

Eather way there is NO reasion at all anyone has any right to do something like that unless the one party caused an accident and even then who in the hell is that much of a douche nozzle to scream at someone over it?

Grow up and deal with the fact that there are other drivers out on the road (a-holes or not) and just let them pass.
