i would not let 2.7 be a deal breaker at all i have see them with 200k on them and the cases were never cracked open. i would also talk to your local dealer i got my 1978 SC this year thru a local dealer. i talked to the used car manager and told him what i wanted and a price range and he found it in fla. for me i paid a few grand more but got all the records with the car and it was one owner.

i like the 912's also any 911/912 pre 1969 and you get the true feeling what the "doctor" was looking for in a car. i would love to have a 1965 911 first year here in the states and it sold for $6500.00 new wow

Don't get a 2.7 unless you know these cars inside and out. I might buy one if it was cheap and perfect, but you need to be very careful.

There also the option of finding a 911 with a broken 2.7 and swapping something else (turbo subaru boxer or 13B) - 95% chance though it would be outside of your 15k budget unless you did everything regarding the swap yourself and found an amazing deal on the 911.
