What do people have as far as "driving" shoes? I am not talking Nomex racing shoes. I have had Puma Speedcats and Some Piloti of some sort. I was wondering what others wore. I am tempted to try these.

Speedcats here. I wanted to try some Pilotis, but it seems they're out of business now.
I'll continue on with Speedcats, but also thinking about getting some Sambas or their cousins to switch it up a bit.
I have a pair of these and I like them>

Honestly I wasn't that big a fan of the Pilotis.

Speedcats, too. I like 'em a lot.
I drive the Miata a lot in summer bare foot because I like to wear flip-flops a lot since I get sweaty feet.

I wear classic Vans low-cut skateboarding shoes.
Vans often. Used to wear Sambas, but a redesign made them fit oddly for me a few years ago. Love the Adidas Adi Racer, but they've gotten dumber with every revision as well as getting harder to find. Been meaning to try Speedcats.
The one pair of Pilotis I had were the dumbest shoes ever and quickly relegated to yard work.
I've come to think that I prefer something with a firm sole for cars like my 2002 which take real pressure on the brake pedal, but like thin-soled skate shoes on more-boosted cars like the WRX.
Had Piloti G16s, the soles cracked and peeled off after 5 years of use and regular soggyness (rest of the shoes were fine though...kind of a shame), now Piloti's out of business and I'm planning to get Puma Speedcat SDs.
Until I get them I'm wearing Etnies skate shoes - the only kind of (non-hiking/boot-type) shoes that hold together worth a damn these days are proper skate shoes.

Had some of those. They were ok. Better then the Piloti.
Usually just my standard work loafers when it's not warm enough to be barefoot, though the Keen steel-toed shoes I had to get for the shop at work are REALLY nice for driving the DeLorean's heavier pedals on long cruise-control-less trips. I'm seriously considering looking into some of their less-enclosed models of shoe since I've been very happy with how they've held up to abuse over the last year.

I have a set of Pilotis. My friend in California was their marketing guy for a couple of years before a falling out. The are confortable but not great. I could not beat the price though (free).
Chris
I still love my Samba Classics.

Thirded. Thin-soled, durable, and you can get them in a variety of materials. I wear canvas in the summer, and pleather in the colder months.
Converse All-Star high tops. Black, of course.

I find anything with more than a 2" heel difficult to heel toe in. Strappy ones are preferred as they stay on better when driving the miata.
These. I freaking love these things. Most comfortable shoe I've ever worn:

I have a pair of extremely worn and beat up Vans slip-ons.
I have a pair of speedcats, but I think my feet are too wide for them. It's fine while driving, but the sole is narrower than my foot and that starts to hurt when walking around.
Typically I just wear a pair of low-top Vans or Pumas as that gives me the best compromise of a sole thin enough to drive in and something I'm willing to walk a few miles wearing.

Slight tangent: When you heel and toe, your toe is on what pedal? Maybe I just have gorilla feet but I use the arch just behind the ball of my foot for the brake and my last three toes for the gas.

Some trivia for you... that company is owned by Tony Adamowicz, a racer who competed in the glory days of Le Mans, drove Ferrari P3s and still competes in vintage races in a Gurney Eagle.

I have an old pair of rock climbing shoes. Sticky rubber soles, light and narrow.

Keep practicing and you will be able to work up to stilettos
Had the, now impossible to find, addidas sambas with white soles many moons ago. When they got worn out I switched to speedcats and have loved them ever since.
Indoor soccer shoes work best for me.
Adidas Copa indoors are my weapon of choice.
Not very common, but I like these guys:
