It is a shame that the big manufactorers seem to have forgotten that you can have a "fun" car without needing big HP and overboosted everything. Even the accords from that era were not a bad drive.

I dont think there's a late 80s honda extant that isnt cool on some level. They were light, basic, well built, responsive, and probably a lot of other good traits i cant form into words right now.
I had an 85 crx hf last year and fit fine (6'0/200). I just bought an 86 crx that someone put tercel seats into, and the extra seat height really cramps the head and knee room (no-tilt column).
C. 2001 I saw a '90 Si advertised in the Washington post w/ 27k miles. figuring the "1" had been left off, I called and got Hildegard, the very German owner. She worked at the International Monetary Fund, lived 2 blocks away, and the car was kept - covered - in the garage of her building.
She had it serviced twice a year by the Honda dealer, doing everything they suggested, and the car actually had 27,000 miles and every piece of paper ever associated with it. She was asking $3800 - really steep at the time for an 11 year old Civic, but I had a well used-up '88 Si and the opportunity for a new one wasn't to be missed.
2 years later I bought a leftover '02 Civic ep3 hatchback and sold the '90 - in retrospect I really wish I'd had a way to keep it. It was a wonderful car.

I could have had it for around $500 and it was nice. I probably won't fit in one now. You'd probably be surprised - I gave rides in college to a big roommate and he never had a problem sitting shotgun. I'll probably own another 1st gen Si someday - it was just a blast.
Tell that to the 6'5" college basketball player who fit comfortably in my '85 Si........
As for the fun-factor of an EF Civic, I've had mine since it was purchased new. There are a lot of good reasons for that.
I had a 89 crx as my first car and loved every minute of it. I bought it with 200k miles on it and after 3 years of constant abuse, freshing up the suspension and brakes and 320k miles on the stock engine i sold the car because i bought a mk3 supra turbo. I still miss that car

I'm hurt Woody you emailed me when you found it, and said I would have first shot at it if you decided not to keep it.

People are built differently. Some 6 foot people have longer legs than others. My 6'-3" friend couldn't race the CRX he bought because he couldn't fit in it with a helmet on. He bought the same year Civic and fit. Limited headroom, dude.

I really liked mine, but it was the last car I owned that was "improved for street" vs. "streetable race car".
A little suspension, more tire, and a Jackson supercharger was all it needed. Also - best seats evar.

I saw that thread right after I replied.
I like how they look on the outside, but the interior is just plain strange, especially that shifter. I also got to thinking... My 3 makes 164ish HP and 164ish TQ, weighs a little more than the EP3, has an extra gear, better exterior lighting, and handles fantastic. I fit in there comfortably, and I already have the car. I think I'm good.
I think I'll play the field with my CSX (BTW, I've never even driven it!) and go from there. I think a small Civic Si or CRX Si may succeed the CSX if I get bored of it.
You know, considering how good those early Civics were, its just sad to see how far they have fallen within that segment.
The 96-00 are a bit heaver but retained the good suspension setup. I believe its the ob2 that people dislike in these last A arm ones.
I own a 96 dx hatch, no abs and the only power anything is the vacuum assist on the brakes.- koni yellows, ebiach sport line springs, ST sway bars front and rear, and the 99-00 SI brakes (bigger front and rear disks). I swapped on the lean burn HX head, ECU, o2 senor, bumped the compression 10.5/1, 195/60 14" star specs on HX the 11 lb wheels, yada yada yada. I absolutely love it. A fair bit quicker than the d16y7 with 40+mpg and a great connected driving experience.
At 6"4" with a long torso I did need lower the drivers seat which was easy enough.

This is true. You'll have an email this evening and I'll kill the auction if necessary...
You'll need to log in to post.
