Thankfully, Bob Stretch walked away from this, although I'm sure he will be a bit sore for awhile. Pix stolen from my friend's Facebook page. Obviously the Howe chassis did its job here.

Stuck throttle at WOT. Unfortunatley, I wasn't the one who did the race prep on this car. This car has had some issues the last couple of races. It was a Championship winning chassis in 2011, had a crash last year at Road Atlanta. Driver last year got too much curbing in 3, backed it into the wall and had to be re-clipped. Plus, I had it sold to a customer who was purchasing it at the end of the season.
Bob is already home, recovering. He has been in contact with me, says he's glad the chassis held up the way it did, but the car is a complete loss. Such a shame to see a car that is non-repairable that you have invested a lot of blood, sweat and tears into.

Can't be. The various experts on this forum have determined such things never happen, and if they ever did, it's easily controlled. Your not allowed to post evidence to the contrary, especially racing evidence.
Seriously, glad the driver is ok. Cars can always be repaired or replaced. Humans are a little more tricky.

Afraid there isn't a whole lot that goes thru your mind when you find out in the brake zone that you throttle is stuck wide open.
Bob is a real tough, old school kinda racer. He'll be up and running by the next race.
Here is the car in question, in the offseason this last year. That front end really absorbed a lot of that impact.

A) Haven't seen the car yet, will ask Bob
b) Jerico 4 speed/ Tiger rear end
iii) Everything is always for sale
It's a good think Duke didn't do the prep on that car.. or to judge by the hit, he lived up to his name here

Can't really comment on who does/did the race prep on these cars. Because I don't like him.

C'mon, even you have to admit there's a big difference between a racer already near the limit with decimal seconds to react and somebody spending 20 minutes on the phone with 911 while their idiot-proof street driver drags them across the county against their wishes.

If ever there's a reason to 'buy' a race car vs. building one, for me it would be this.
Glad to hear the driver is ok. That looks like quite a hit.
Glad everybody's ok. On the big block supermodified, we had a setup with A: a pedal with a loop over your foot, and throttle linkage that was push/pull so you could pull up on the pedal and force the throttle shut, and B: a momentary kill switch for ignition that your toe hit when you pulled up on said pedal. Neither was a bad idea.
In reply to carbon:
We also had that style short track throttle pedal in our cars. We changed them at the beginning of the season to a more traditional throttle pedal.
We also use a "brake pressure kill switch" that, when pressed over a certain amount of brake pressure, will kill the ignition to the car.

We will just call him Fogger Jr. The kid should have been removed from the team if not by the second time trying to go to pit road with shorts on, atleast by the 4th time.

+1,000,000!!!! Giving proper time intervals to the competiton behind usually requires a stop watch, not counting on your fingers...

That would be an interesting thing to hear about.
Just wondering if anyone has came up with an estimated speed at impact. I saw a late model break through a concrete barrier at a circle track and the damage didn't look near as bad. I'd love to see the structure of the cage after the body work is peeled away. I'm amazed at how far back the LF wheel is shoved.
